The ref (see PGMOL thread)

Never mind referees making honest mistakes, will Jarred Gillet give every player that swears at him a yellow card.
This does not fall into the he only gets one view in real time bracket it’s a conscious decision to give a card for swearing, by those standards he should be issuing a card every time.
I’ll bump this as @Voice of fair play seems to either have missed it, or has no logical or sensible answer to my question.

The people who make decisions on refs have their every performance of every game so are in a far more informed position to decide on them than you or I don’t you think?

I am sure refs are are demoted and promoted accordingly.

Yeah would not disagree with VAR been more independent
Some refs seem to be back after 1-2 games which I think is daft and not really an issue for the refs.

Maybe longer stints in the lower leagues if they are constantly messing up.

Consistency between refs on different matches, fair enough. But this was inconsistency by one ref in one match, and that's inexcusable. Even worse, it seemed not to be even-handed
Not sure I agree, pretty sure depending on the angle me or you have would have difffent views on different instances.

Same applies to a ref, depending on his view/angle fouls look worse or better.

Sorry mate hard to keep up with all the responses been soo popular :D

In answer to your question he has certainly put himself into a difficult position going forward I agree.

It all depends how they comparing to other refs.

My logical conclusion is that refs are in higher leagues than others becuase they have been performing better

It also helps who their mates are too it shouldn’t but it does.

With regards to referees check the greenwood sending off for Man City today

Referees should be forced to make a statement after every game to the clubs and fans. Put the little weasels under the spotlight in front of the people who’s weekend they spoil

Additionally every refereeing performance should be assessed in minute detail each week by an independent panel. Too many shit ratings and you should be struck off
It's swings and roundabouts. Yesterday, we were on the wrong end of some bad decisions but there will of course be times when bad decisions go our way. We just need to accept that it's part of the game.
Can anyone let me know how to communicate with a referee from 20 yards away without raising a voice or moving?
There's a difference between communicating with a referee and dissent.

I agree referees should be yeah of course, I get it can be difficult but they shouldn’t be allowed to get away with mistakes constantly.

something needs doing about the constant issues managers and players constantly pissed off. Not all players are dishonest much to what you think.

No excuse to make major mistakes in the premier league Brighton have just been robbed of a penalty which VAR should have been used and at least looked at.
After last week there was not a chance that VAR were awarding a pen against Liverpool 😆

There doesn’t appear to be tbh. Certainly not from 20 yards.

How many doctors and bus drives, have people screaming at them while they doing their job, how many people try to purposefully cheat and con them occupations.

For what it’s worth the ref made a bad decision yesterday and had a bad game.

But if you genuinely can’t see going to a football matches how hard a ref job is then I give up.

As it’s f***ing obvious
You are spot on with this comment .

I think you can tbh. If a player is standing calmly next to a ref and says 'come on, that's not a f***ing foul ref' is totally different to a player charging towards an official aggressively saying the same thing. I can totally see why a official would judge in the incidents separately

I'm not saying Neil charged towards the ref mind. I'm just using a random example
You are correct and some of the comments on here about sacking refs are ridiculous. I would just like some acknowledgement that the decision yesterday was overly harsh and that it is unfair to blame the player when he will have seen the same thing happen upteen times with no card. I also think there should have been a bit more common sense applied because it was a second yellow and not an obvious one. A warning in these particular circumstances would have been more appropriate.

Neil was 20 yards away and was walking towards the ref as he points to the foul that should have been given which is probably his "It's a f***ing foul comment", the ref waves him away and Neil still keeps walking and talking so must have said something more than just that previous comment and then suddenly the ref reacts to that. Unless the audio is released then nobody knows what happened as I don't know if the ref's report will contain the exact details of the exchange.

I can't really believe that all Neil said is what Mowbray said given Neil's clearly talking a lot more than it takes to say that in the video.

I do think that more than a valid point as if just said as reported it looks harsh.

So that has the lead to a question was more said.

We will probably never know

Does it not get put in the ref's report and who gets to see that? Can Mowbray request to know what the exact reason was? Do they have the audio recorded?

Though as you say, I doubt we'll ever know given I don't think Neil would admit 'exactly' what he said, even to Mowbray. Nor would Mowbray tell us if he did find out as that then puts the blame wholly on Neil, whereas most is directed at the ref.

To me, I can understand why Neil was sent off - even though it is harsh to get a 2nd yellow considering 95% of footballers will mouth off to the referee. Those instances are rarely booked, and those who are already booked even more rarely receive a 2nd yellow for it.

However, the lack of a red card on the assault on Ballard and attempted headbut during the melee at HT is inexcusable for me. I don’t think anyone can excuse the referee or officials for that. It’s borderline assault and the referee and officials need pulling up for it.

This ref has already been investigated for his constant fuckups , David baited said he should be nowhere near football
