So he could spend another 40m on the likes of graham, fletcher on massive wages and we have to shove them out of the door with not a red cent of transfer value on any of his signings.

Would have to be Allardyce I suppose. He's the only one who left at the wrong time really. All the others have been sacked/resigned at the right time. Sam would have had us relatively comfortable this season I'm sure.
 
Poyet - I know, I know, but for all his faults, he is the only manager that seemed to have a vision about how we should play. I would be more confident of returning from the championship with Poyet than Moyes anyway. Tin hat on.

He tried to play a short passing game using players who couldn't pass very well. God knows how he'd manage with the current lot.
 
Gus Poyet. He inherited a mess had fuck all to spend and actually gave teams a go. If he'd had the funding O'Neill had we wouldn't have looked back.

Despite all the hand wringing and (on his part) nonsense spouted about never being truly accepted because of his Geordie roots, Bruce probably was unluckiest to lose his job, and based solely on league positions achieved, did the best job.

Yes, it can be argued he was financially supported more than other managers but despite some horrendous buys, he also brought some decent players to the club - oh for a forward line of Bent, Wellbeck and Gyan now, not to mention a midfield of Henderson. Malbranque, Zenden, Cana etc.

Bruce was sacked in November when there was still six months of the season to go and we weren't in the relegation zone either (16th following a home defeat by Wigan).

If you discount Advocaat who resigned and Allardyce who walked pre-season, Bruce was also the manager with the highest league position at the time of his dismissal (we were 17th when both Poyet and MON were sacked 18th with Keane and 20th with Di Canio).

I think if Short looks back over all the hiring and firing of managers maybe it's Bruce he has some regrets over.
