Too many bronze medals though.
Some teams have over performed, some have massively under performed.
A lot of it is very fine margins

There would have been a number of targets within that, one of which would have been gold medals.
We've fallen short of that particular total.

Can you have "too many" bronze medals?
It is possible to perform (or even over-perform) and still not win if someone does even better. That's just the nature of sport.
Japan and Australia are ahead of GBR as they pile up golds in a few events while GBR are competitive in a wider number of sports.

The positive is that it's across a range of sports. That strengthens the case of those sports when it comes to handing out funding. There's also a few sports, especially cycling, where those bronze medals have been won by athletes at their first Olympics. Again, that strengthens the argument to back them over the next four years.

Great that we've met total medal targets but you can guarantee they ain't happy with dropping half of our gold medals from recent years

Not sure we've really delivered in the cycling.
And only predicted 7 athletics medals, we got 10, 11?

I'm talking about Team GB's expectations.
They set the targets and the funding for the next cycle is based on whether those targets are achieved.

Cycling is in a rebuilding phase after the retirement of some legends, usually get a few in boxing but the whole competition was a disgrace and I think there are usually more in sailing but doubt that is a sport that many people care about.

Given the medal table is effectively just a function of gold medals won it would suggest that we have under performed there but it's fine margins and sometimes it doesn't go your way. Also there have been blistering performances from Aus, France, Japan, Germany and Netherlands which has shared things out more.
