Vaccination data published and North East leads the way
Some positive news! Today the government have published the vaccination data and the North East has vaccinated more people, per head of population, than anywhere else in the country
The data also shows that more than 50% of everyone over the age of 80 has received a vaccination in our area.
This is the best vaccination rate in the country and is testament to the hard-work and dedication of everyone involved in this national effort, including the logistics experts, delivery drivers, Steward Volunteers at vaccination centres and of course our amazing NHS workers.
It’s absolutely essential that as many people as possible get vaccinated as soon as possible and It’s great to see the North East leading the way. Across the country we are now doing more than 200,000 jabs a day and the sooner we get jabs into people’s arms, the sooner we can get back to normal.
We now have light at the end of the tunnel, but this must not make anyone complacent so we must stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.

But should then be used to ask questions as to why it can be done in one region and not others, what are we getting right that other areas aren't? Can these other areas learn from us?

The good news is that most regions are doing quite well, particularly NE&YH and the SW. Not sure what's going wrong in the East of England and London.

As that is based on % of population is it not possible that the ratio of old people certainly in London is less than any other area anyway

I always get the impression that London is a young persons city

Indeed. If you were to age-standardise it, it would be different, to some degree. Unfortunately NHS digital doesn’t have the numbers delivered by age band, but London’s relatively poor uptake per head of the population is certainly exaggerated to some degree by the age profile there.

Age demographic spread.

Loads of 70+ people in the NE and SW.

Loads of <40 in London.

Khan can kick off all he wants - but his population age demographic does not warrant more jabs at this time.

There was a feature about this on the local news at dinner time. London is bottom of roll out, no matter what criteria used to assess it. It is a bit odd considering how badly the hospitals are coping here vs elsewhere.

Does that not mean that it'll take longer to get the whole of London vaccinated (due to younger population) but not that the first vaccines are being delayed in London. Another way, an 80+ year old in London will have been offered it, surely?
