The Morning After The Night Before

They were crowding Brobbey out, and subsequently any of the runners he could lay it off to. They got their tactics spot on and we didn’t deal with it as the game went on.

I couldn’t believe how long it took RLB to change things up. They scored their first 4 goals over a 20 minute spell. It’s not exactly a smash and grab.
I thought we still could have played the ball to him straight from the goal kicks. We might not have won it but at least it would be better than losing the ball 30 yards from our own goal.

Well lads and lasses.
That was an absolute shocker. The first 10 mins I thought we were heading for a comfortable win but after Hume’s OG we just capitulated. Defending was as bad as I have seen it. This playing out from the back does my head in. We have been fortunate not to get caught out like last night more than we have. Just kick the bastard forward ffs !!!
The players looked jaded, tired, leggy, however you want to put it. Just looked like a hard season was catching up on them.
Europe probably now out of reach and to be honest I am pleased. Playing Europa or Conference every Thursday meaning we are playing virtually Thursday, Sunday most weeks would be an absolute killer for our squad. We don’t have the strength in depth for it yet. Lets focus on next season, making sure we establish ourselves as a strong Premier team then go again.
One positive from last night was the crowd in the second half. Those of us who stayed til the end really got behind the lads and the atmosphere, despite the score was superb.
A week to dust ourselves down and then we go again. STID 👍👍
For me its always about who strikes the first blow... Chris Rigg Should have buried the chance he had , very similar to his at Villa, instead of a weak side footer. Who knows but it could have went our way over 98 minutes. After that, its now history. Bad day at the office, a very bad day but we move on.

If Rigg had scored early on, different story IMO but we need to talk about Robin Roefs and inswinging corners, teams have now figured out he is absolutely terrified of them and we cannot defend them whatsoever.

Also, I still cannot find the sense in playing out from the back when we have Brobbey up top, hes there to battle defenders and them having a rookie CB I thought he would have been the target for Brobbey to pin, just didnt happen.

Said to my mate we were in trouble as their 2 up top destroyed us with their press and we flapped.
Keeper to midfield and early pass to Alderete constantly, is easy for anyone to work against, never mind a prem manager/team .
We gave the ball away like this , well before they scored .
It was plain as day we couldn't handle their press, and had some early warning signs they probably should have done better from, yet we persisted in f***ing about with it at the back, have to wonder where our 'coach on the pitch' was at this moment as either him or the actual coach should have rectified this. Game management was non existent on or off the pitch

I posted last night, our fitness levels look miles behind the oppositions at times. Last night was very evident. We couldn't get anywhere near the 2nd balls. Too many players look fucked every game early doors. Mukiele especially, you can tell he only trains once a week.
Has nordi done that all season or since his lay off? Do agree, he’s been off it for a while. Hope the club are looking at new elite coaches

I disagree about the first 10 mins, they could have been 2 or 3 up then too as we kept giving the ball to them with half arsed passes. Our attacks looked decent but our defence looked fucked from the first second.

Still pissed off. Honestly can’t believe the state of that performance.

What worries me more is that a team that has shown fight and pride all season totally gave up.
Yup, I got told off by my bairn this morning as he could hear me constantly moaning on to myself in the bathroom about getting tonked 5-0  . He just said "stop crying mam, you win some you lose some".....I wasn't crying ffs

we need to go 4-4-1-1 with Enzo playing off the striker.
I'd play Mayenda on the right wing too

Like to see Finn G / Ahmed get some minutes too before the end of the season.
If we're not going to make Europe and are safe i'd rather we used the remainder of the games constructively and freshen things up

We’ve shown all season we can come back from the first blow though.

Quickly handing them 4 had me stunned.

I think the OP is reasonable, well intended etc but I disagree with him 😂

It’s confused between blaming tactics and approach, arguing our approach to date has been wrong and fortunate not to have been exposed more, and blaming tiredness.

The former requires a tactical overhaul, the latter requires a bit of a rest.

Of course it could be argued both tiredness and approach are problems - but that feels a very scattergun approach to whatever problem we have in mid table in the Premier League.

I’m going to be say in my opinion I haven’t got a clue what the fuck happened last night nor how to reconcile it with what’s been a very successful season. Maybe Forest were mint? I don’t know.

I don’t know how we build moving forward, I just hope we do and I feel progress needs to be evolutionary not revolutionary. Sell no more than 2 or 3 bring in 5 or 6 squad players and 2 first teamers would be lovely, keep the manager and get some brand new Hummel shirts and beat Wolves next week. Don’t know how - but “just kick the bastard forward” I suspect won’t be the answer.

Think we have been poor at defending balls into the box and crosses since the turn of the year. Saying that you cant let teams keep putting quality balls in like Villa and Forest were you need to stop them coming in.
Also take a bloody shot and play the simple ball when the chance is there.

I was expecting a hard game as they were unbeaten in their last 6 or something. Once their first went in, we capitulated. It was a massive wake up call for everyone at the club, and to be honest it’s been coming. We’ve had some absolutely fantastic moments since last May, but the last 2 games have been a stark reminder that this league is ruthless.
Indeed.
I'm sure KLD, with his high standards, will have found that unacceptable.
