The Hundred 2025

He’s wrong about the eventually. I think it will be a T20 competition as early as next year.
Imagine if they change it to a T20 format.

Surely everyone involved who insisted that it had to be shorter would have to resign immediately? And you'd feel pretty stupid, maybe even betrayed, if you believed them.

Taking cricket away from half the country and cancelling all future test cricket in the school holidays, just for more of the same? There's going to be uproar from the people who have been duped by this nonsense.

It’s being openly advocated by the new owners. Everyone assumed it would need to see out the current TV contract but the TV companies seem amenable to it even before the end of the contract.

Did anybody?

The plan was always about reducing the numbers and sidelining the counties. It’s worked out just fine for its instigators.

(And you must expect me to make my usual point, that as 34% of the counties have a blast team and 15% have a 100 team, it’s only reduced by one in five not by half the parts of the country that have one - we’re just pissed off the one in five includes Durham)

An alternative view might go something like;

It had to be different to create a shiny new thing. Polishing Derby's T20 team wasn't going to get the job done.

The thing they have created is pretty much the emperors new clothes but yet they have sold it and generated hundreds of millions to reinvest in the sort of cricket that this forum considers to be proper.

Alongside that its done pretty much wonders for women's cricket but that will not pass the proper test on here either.

Ironically it is the money generated by the sale of this very thing that will allow CC div 2 Northampton vs Glamorgan on a Tuesday afternoon to proceed for several years to come despite the lack of paying patrons.

This summer's test series was a classic. There's nothing wrong there.

When the hundred becomes the 120, who cares? The money is in the bank.

Why would anyone involved be embarrassed by that?

Well exactly most people I imagine including me will be happy it changed to T20 as they understand it more.

And very much agree with your other points

‘ Imagine if they change it to T20’

It’s not a question of if it’s a question of when.

absolutely spot on, i do have a feeling that they wont want to just ditch the 5 years of branding in the naming of tournament that it will become the Hundred20 rather than being called a T20

count the comp in balls still

I think the investors will have a big say which you would expect the huge amount money they have put in.

So will be exactly the same as all the other tournaments in every other country.

May keep the name but that it imo

No respect these super rich Indian chaps.

There's at least five minutes worth of tradition, history etc going out the window there.

Let's hope they get us all back onside by terminating Tom Curran's contract.
