The Hundred 2024

This makes sickening reading.

I’ll walk down Villette Road in a full mag kit if 540,000 actually attended. Some of those teams can’t be getting more than 7000 through the gates.

Why do they say that viewing figures are down like it’s a shock? They’ve been falling every year since its inception while other sports on FTA have seen theirs go up.

Goes with territory really, franchise model is done across the world and the tv companies like it too. And if it’s on tv it’s full of marketing bollocks

I like how it engages kids and gets them into cricket, I’ve watched the finals on BBC 2 today for nowt, can’t watch any other Cricket for free on terrestrial tv

And watched loads with the bairn this last month, hopefully stayed engaged enough to watch some of the test soon

I know some recoil in horror at the idea of Durham having a franchise but i genuinely think it’s a case of get on board or get left behind, if the hundred stays or goes or changes to t20 format i think the franchise model is here to stay

All the money comes from tv and they don’t want 18 teams, need to be one of the ones they want
The propaganda says they don't want 18 teams yet in England tv are happy to cover a football league containing 20 teams.
ECB don't disclose what proportion of the sponsorship money comes from covering England games as opposed to Hundred games. Why?
Franchises are businesses not charities; they're in it for profit i.e take out more than they put in. They'll only invest if they have full control of all finances.
The Franchise model has only proved to be successful in India- a cricket and country with a population of 1.4 billion
Can England compete for the "stars" against countries whose tournaments clash with the Hundred i.e.Pakistan,another cricket mad country with a population 4 times that of England or USA,where Baseball, very similar sport to the Hundred,is already established?
Why can't domestic T20 offer the same appeal to youngsters as the Hundred at far less outlay?
Going down the Franchise route hasn't been fully researched, commit and there's no going back.
English cricket is in profit year on year mainly through revenue from the England team. It's not necessary to risk the Franchise route.
As for Durham,I'm sure Saudi sponsorship is already agreed but they're funding for PR reasons, not profit.
The anti-Hundred brigade have been called"stupid"and "snobs" on here. I can assure you that I'm far from being either.I'm a life-long cricket lover.

What I find interesting in this thread is that despite some posters liking this tournament there wasn't a single post commenting on the action during the Men's final.

Also compare this thread with last year's equivalent thread. ..

2023 - 1635 posts
2024 - 543 posts.

Is interest waning I wonder?

Certainly looks to be the case.

Remove the posts from The Bot and The Cuck and there’s literally nobody talking about it.

Uh oh…

The women’s competition dropped by 41 percent on Sky and the men’s tournament 28 percent compared to 2023.

On the BBC the men’s Hundred was down 25 percent.

Don't ever accept the depressing narrative that it is "here to stay". It may very well not be.

Good luck ECB getting investors to buy shares in the Titanic.

Some clubs are having members meetings to discuss it, i wonder when Durham have theirs

I wish everyone would boycott it.

Bring back the Gillette and JPL !

Bringing back the JPL would need new sponsors as for the Gilette I am not sure they are cut out for it, never know though it could be a close shave!
Ha ha - no way JPL in these PC times and as for the Gillette - 60 overs would seem a lifetime to some and getting through 120 overs in a day - well good luck with all that !

9am start and the use of floodlights in June is the only way you would get a game of that length finished these days!
