The Hotel

never seen this but ties in with what I was hearing about the EA moaning on about flood risks hence the delays
one of the neighbour objections is hilarious reading................ she's happy to state she is a member of bannatynes health centre but doesn't want the hotel built
It's took them a year to add something this April lol

Had a look at the new ones, some wouldn't load or it freezes

Yes, I remember Bostock mentioning this during a zoom meeting. Bostock dismissed these concerns from presumably experts in that area.Touch of the King Canutes about our Tim who obviously believes he can control nature.

Good point -however Bostock informed the Luddites at last night's member's directive that the hotel would double turnover- turnover not profit note. There's certainly no evidence that there has been any research into this matter but Bostock has spoken and,as was confirmed last night, this has be accepted as fact and the Luddites have no right to seek clarification on any issues.

The hotels at The Rose Bowl and particularly Old Trafford will make plenty IMO as they are in cities and located at grounds that hold test matches, OT even backs on to the largest club football stadium in England.

Who is going to come to CLS to stay in a Hilton approx 4 miles from Durham, 8 from Sunderland and 12 from Newcastle?

Old Trafford makes a fortune from overflow of corporate football trade and it's proximity to the main shopping centre.
Not so sure that the Hampshire hotel is an asset to the cricket.

From what I heard it was flood risks and also something to do with the boating club but it seems the flooding risk was a genuine concern. The silence from the club has been very telling though

My biggest gripe is the complete lack of communication from the club on this. In Feb 2024 they produced videos, put demos up in the clubshop , appointed advisors and since then have told us nothing. The deal apparently ties in with the club, the council and the hotel company and is supposed to be profitable for all. The ground needs finishing and it would be nice to have a proper update, on the club site as to when ... if ever .... this thing is getting built.

Club communication is appalling.

CLS is the smallest settlement - by some distance - that hosts a County Championship match the county's principal ground. All other counties are either based in a large city or a county town. I think Canterbury is the next smallest settlement (albeit more than twice the size of CLS) but that's a popular tourist destination in its own right. You're absolutely right to question where these potential customers are going to come from when we aren't hosting an international match.

Were there any other options on the table aside from CLS when identifying a new home?

I understand that a site in Newton Aycliffe was mooted, as well as somewhere else which escapes my memory now, but I'm sure none were central to Durham.

Wasn't developing Ashbrooke considered as a logical venue but there were access and parking problems.
Rumoured Bostock is considering relocating to Riyadh- has some wealthy contacts there apparently.Donating Banks Riverside to the Luddites.

"There is an increase risk to life due to increased flood depths surrounding dwellings and increase of flood depth within Flood Zone 3b functional floodplain."

Seems a tad dramatic, the water level would have to rise a fair bit to be anywhere close to getting to the ground

Bostock isn't getting his way with anything at present. Not getting the hotel, didnt get his own way with the restructure of the County Championship.

I would fully understand it if he were to resign in frustration.

Hopefully.

ive just read about 5 comments and all state parking but use photos of the opposite side of the cricket ground as reasons against... its going to be where the Trapdoor stand is isnt it therefore their concerns are pretty much irrelevant. I was also under the impression the hotel was to built on 'stilts' which would also parking underneath and also to protect against the slim chance of flooding from the river. only a quick glance over the application but i cant see those reasons being sufficient to prevent the hotel being built.

Risk of subsidence is the concern and water table below ground level could still cause subsidence.
Nor would a Hotel built on stilts be an attraction for potential customers.
