Theory is the same though rest key players for a big series.

I'm sure we played Bangladesh home and away just before a 4 game series v Pakistan then the Ashes then the CWC.

hang about India only play about 10 tests per year as it is regardless of the oppo

This is as a result of the IPL. No IPL Sachin would have been playing. Very sad

nee offence Bangladesh hardly have the test pedigree or history of the Windies

Very sad day for test cricket

History has nothing to do with India's selection for this series. Both West Indies and Bangladesh are the poorest test playing nations, so the major nations tend to rest players against them if they have a more important series straight after.

It's like Man United resting a few first teamers against, say Wolves, when they have a Champions League game against Real Madrid in the midweek, no one would bat an eyelid.

The test rankings came up on the Sky coverage yesterday, India have only played 3 less tests than England over the last 4 years.

Would never have happened 10 years ago. Very sad for test cricket that the top players now pick and chose their tests

I'm just glad he's playing against us this summer ... he's a true legend i never thought we'd see him play a test in england again after 2007

100th international ton ... in the 100th test between India and England.. At Lords would be fitting for him

It's also the 1000th test match too, isnt it?

bloody hell comparing Bangladesh to the once mighty West Indies

What a say day for test cricket as a product

The key words, treat each team on its merits now, not how good they have been in the past. Is it a sad day for test cricket when you can say that the once crap England are now better than the once mighty Australia? Who's to say that Bangladesh won't improve to become a reasonable test nation as well?

a mixture of injuries and some players needing a rest. nowt to get worked up about. especially when a massive series with england is just round the corner. i hope sehwag makes the series, been looking forward to seeing him and the little master in the flesh (so to speak).

i really enjoyed watching the first day of the test, some very good cricket.

Top post. And it doesn't just stop with the Indians, I'm sure all the teams do it at some stage, but its always to the detriment of Test cricket.

Give me a days worth of the Ashes cricket over any pajama cricket any day of the week.

cheers.

i think the vast majority of posters missed the point, its irrelevant the windies are crap. Test cricket should be the pinnacle of a players career and in a by gone year nobody would have skipped a test if fit

very sad

There's just too much cricket, even without the IPL. Look at the England schedule over the Winter, it was ridiculous and hardly any of them turned out in the IPL.
