Esh Winning don't have any junior cricket

You forgot to mention Brandon ;-)
Under 11 DCB championship 2012

1] Tudhoe v Chester le Street
2] Ryton v Durham City
3] Blaydon v Washington
4] Peterlee v Esh Winning

durham play Peterlee in the final - durham City will win, probably with overs to spare. CLS knocked out in SF having defeated Tudhoe. Washington saw off Blaydon but lost to DC in SF.

Under 13

1] Dawdon v Chester le Street
2] Shotley Bridge v Tudhoe
3] Bishop Auckland v Durham City
4] Wearmouth v Swalwell

Think its durham v CLS in the final

Under 15

1] Ryhope v Durham City
2] Brandon v Annfield Plain
3] Hetton Lyons v Greenside
4] Tudhoe v Bill Quay

Hetton Lyons will piss it. I would doubt that Brandon will be anywhere near the final. The Plain have a good team at U15 level.

Playing NEPL cricket on a juniors basis would see some ridiculous journeys. Regionalise the combined NEPL 1 and NEPL 2 maybe?

Mind it seems to work canny as it is.
there is a huge disparity in the relative abilities of the teams. At both Under 11 and Under 13 levels in the DSL CLS and Durham City are, 9 times out of 10, the top 2. Hetton Lyons occasionally have good teams as do sunderland but DC and CLS are the 2 to beat.

Pretty much the same at under 15 and Under 18 levels.

the others by and large get hammered and to be honest I just cant really see what good it does. Its like Man United and Chelsea being in the same division as Accrington, Barnet and Telford United every season no matter what.

there's just no point.

Without knowing the results above i would say Ryhope have got a chance they beat a very good Hetton Lyons side last week in Gavin Pattinson Cup Final, tho the Lyons seem to easily win in the NEPL U15 Tournament

Didn't know they still had 11 at Esh we get a few 15s and 18s coming to us

Our under 15 are average this year not sure if 18 won the league or if Bishop nicked it

diont know the scores as yet in the U15's. HL won the U15 DSL league at a canter and are reckoned to have one of the best sides at that level for many a year. However most of them will probably be in their last year at U15 level so someone else will win it next year, althoiugh we wait too see how junior cricket is to be re-organised.

Dont quite know whats going on at Esh at U11 level. they scratched from the competition ie Peterlee got a walk over.

Peterlee have a good U11 side. Second year running that they have played Durham City in the final. However durham City have at least 3 lads who will invariably get 20 and then mandatorily retire. They will get 100 plus and that will be the end of the game.

the U11 final will be this Saturday i would imagine. If I can find out where its at I might take my lad through to watch it. I think Ryhope is a well used venue for these sorts of neutral venue finals.

Wonder how many of the umpires from the old County League will be standing next season if it's going to be timed cricket?
Don't fancy watching someone stonewall it for 30 odd overs.:roll::roll:

Poor attitude - timed cricket makes for more competitive cricket as it gives the poorer side in a game something to play for. If the best side in the league plays the worst in an overs game there's no point in even bothering - but if the better side have to bowl the opposition out to win (particularly where there are extra points to be had if they back themselves to bat first then bowl the opposition out) it gives the poorer side something to play for and set their sights on.

I'm not an umpire but I'd imagine standing with five overs left and one team hanging on 8 down, whilst the fielding side are crowding the bat and desperate for the last two wickets, is a hell of a lot more interesting than going through the motions when a team are 100/6 chasing 300 in an overs game.

Spoke to a bloke today at the DCCC match who is on the panel discussing the junior setup going forward. Sems to be a certainty that it will stay the same next year but that the year after it will be regionalised and no pairs at U13.

seems to be a question about who the likes of Washington, Durham City etc. might play as there is a very small geographical boundary for them all. Might have to include Sunderland. wearmouth, Hylton etc.

why wearmouth?

Under 11's - Durham City defeated Peterlee
Under 13's - Chester le Street defeated Durham City (cracking game)
Under 15's - rained off; played next weekend

Peterlee do indeed have a good u11's team, and gave a valiant effort v Durham City in final.
Washington have had by far the best team at u11 in Coast League for last three years however; won League and Cup 'double' for last two years and won County Cup in 2010, beating Durham City in final.
Best teams defo Durham City followed closely by Washington, with Peterlee probably third. Very good standard for the age-group, hats off to all the volunteer coaches involved.

Washington's best player has just moved up to U13's as has Durham City's so it'll be interesting too see what happens at U11 level next year.

What teams struggle with at that level are batsmen. As I said on a previous e-mail Durham City had 3 batsmen who could all get 20's and had another who could get close to it. It makes getting 100 plus in the DCB competition almost certain.

What handicaps clubs like CLS is that they have so many players at all levels that their U11's dont get much of a chance at say U13's and certainly not at U15's. Compared to their peers like Durham City and Washington it is a massive handicap as was proved in this years DCB Tournament. Quite simply they only had 2 lads who had played non pairs cricket, and had batted at a higher standard, and the rest struggled to make the transition from "protecting your wicket" (the mantra at U11 pairs cricket) to hitting out for runs with say 5 overs left with 7 batsmen left.

However CLS CC seem to play a longer game than the other clubs and of course have one of the best club sides in the country at first team level. The lads eventually come through.

At Durham City they seem to drift away from the club and as we know their first team isnt anything particularly to write home about.

Yes, Washington have seen a few move up from this years team, and will miss the player you refer to. A good, techincally correct batsmen; a really good bowler who can turn-over leg-spin and put seamers down at pace, and a great fielder. He's a top footballer too come to think of it!!

Washington have benefitted from having a very good all-round Squad, and when one player has an off-day, others step up to the plate for the team.

The lad I was referring to is I think the wicket keeper. He opened the bat with my lad for the DCB v Dubai (they put on 56 together for the 1st wicket) and is a strong lad. I think he was voted the W'ton U11 POTY last week. I was talking to his Dad last Sunday and he told me that he had a batting average of something like 99 for 2012.

I know that Washington had 2 other very good U11's this year but I'm not sure if 1 of them has also moved up or not. It might be the one you are referring too.

Durham must have not wanted to promote one or two u11 last year when they called u13 game off because one or two their u13 players were at the county

I'm not sure what game they called off but they did promote 3 U11's when they played CLS U13's and lost. At the time both sides had lads down with the County at Sussex.

The 3 lads they did promote were their best 3 U11's, obviously, but they have a fourth who is a good player as well who I saw for the first time this season.

The main lad who is moving up to the U13s is the U11's coach's son. IMO he was the best player in the county at U11 level this year. He's a cracking player and a really nice lad. My lad gets on well with him.

I'll be interested to hear what the upshot is of the meeting that will be held in the next 10 days to sort our the future of junior cricket in the county.

u15's final result
hetton lyons batted first got 137 from 20 overs jack burnham and josh coughlin both getting their 50. Ryhope got 117 from their twenty overs jack tomlin getting his 50. Very good game to watch both teams played well and I think ryhope may of won the game if it was their mixed team participating as they have two teams at u15 level

Hell, missed it. :-?

Not surprised to hear that Burnham got 50 as he is a great player.

Can you explain to me what you mean in your last comment about mixed teams? Surely Ryhope simply put out their best team today?
