Pretty impressive record when you look at today's lineup.

Stoneman
Borthwick
Wood
Harrison
Rushworth
Mustard
Collingwood
Arshad

Clearly doing a lot of things right.

Are most counties not full of academy players?

Don't get me wrong, our focus on youth is admirable and utterly necessary. But I'm sure if you picked most counties, a fair chunk of their side would be locally developed.

Yorkshire - Bairstow, Root, Rashid, Sidebottom, Bresnan, Lyth....without even looking up their team

These 2 new lads who have bowled so well this game have just got me thinking.

At one point in time DCCC must have had the following all on the books;

Rushworth, Onions, Plunkett, Arshad, Claydon, Thorp, Wood, Brathwaite, SHarmison, Harrison, maybe even Davies(?)

Is it any wonder whatsoever we have messed up our wage bill completely (all the while whilst struggling to assemble a reliable batting unit).

[DOUBLEPOST=1377372262][/DOUBLEPOST]All at different stages of their development, this time last season Rushworth,Wood and Harrison where all unproven at first team level. The big mistake they made was giving Harmy a 4 year deal after his time with England was up, and probably Plunkett should have made a move to another county a year earlier than he did.
The way the young players have come into the first team this season and done so well will probably encourage the managment to release more senior players at the end of the season. I would have thought Buckley, Pringle and Arshad have all done enough to get full contracts for next season.

We develop fuck all in the way of batsmen mind
The answer to that is simple. We did not take specialist batsmen into our Academy. To get into the Academy for the last 5 to 6 years you need to be a " 3 Dimensional Cricketer ". If you're not an all rounder then they didn't want to no you. Surely this was totally short sighted as the proof is we need specialist batsmen for our squad.

Is this Rammy Singh any good? Captain isnt he?

I never see anyone getting huge runs for the 2nds or taking many 5fers although clearly they are doing something right.

The comment about the 3 dimensional cricketers would seem right in view of how many bits & peices players the 2nds seem to have.

You probably know more about this than me but has there been many specialist batsmen good enough over the past few years to play for the Academy who have been overlooked. The best batsmen i have seen at the academy in the past few years is Stokes, Borthwick was decent although i did not think he would become a front line batsmen as he has done this season. The only academy cricket i have seen recently was at Ropery Lane where i thought the academy batting was excellent, left hand opening bat called Clark made a big hundred to beat Chester le st.

Interestingly this year the DCB has selected half a dozen lads from U11 upwards for specialist batting coaching. My lad is one of them at U11 level. Not sure if this is replicated at all levels but it is for the U12s as well because the 11's and 12s had joint training sessions at Fyndoune, which incidentally were watched by people like Geoff Cook, Ali Maiden and John Windows.[DOUBLEPOST=1377378045][/DOUBLEPOST]

I dont know whats going on with Rammi. He looked like he was a great hope but this year I havent seen or heard much about him. He may have been injured.

If he's the lad in the turban with a brother who plays they're at Gateshead Fell.
