The club Hierarchy

Wow I can’t believe what I have just read Bostock perplexed by our relegation and that we had assembled a squad capable of competing for the title.

Seriously just how deluded is the guy he mentions quality additions such as Conner’s a journeyman injury prone also ran.

That he would not swap our squad with anybody’s else’s.

Dear me how are they allowed to get such puff piece interviews out. I think the guy is an idiot and a total chancer.

As long as he’s our head we are achieving nothing utterly ridiculous!

It's corporate speak, of which he'll be an expert at, deflecting any responsibility away from himself. I've resigned myself to the fact that the club we knew of focusing on developing local talent has been destroyed.

It seems to be the thing with cricket bosses these days.

ECB head Richard Thompson bigging up the 16.4 and talking about player burnout at the same time.

Rob Key saying how kookaburra balls will benefit our future England players in Australia.

Then there's Bostock who has said lots of things which are completely seen through by the fans.

Are they all after Kier Starmer's job?

"this is the best Durham squad in a generation" - Tim Bostock this week. Beyond deluded

I do believe on paper we had a far better side than the league table suggests.

Potts, Mckinney, Robinson etc are good players. Gay, Rhodes were proven county players. Bedingham arguably the best bat in cc but scarcely available

Carse, Stokes not playing a single cc game was unfortunate

I would question why we didnt get an Indian spinner for the entire summer

Our batting on paper is very strong and that should have gained enough points to be clear of relegation. However,we were never going to win anything with the limited attack that was available. Injuries to the bowlers were no excuse. Aside from Raine and Potts none were of the required standard even had they been fit. If North is to maintain any credibility,he has to explain why this glaring weakness wasn't addressed pre-season. Ulitimately ,that is why we were relegated.i.e. Solely North's fault.

Marcus North believed Sam Connors was a division 1 cricketer and also Chemar Holder

Ty for posting. I wonder if they had assumed Potts being his usual self, Carse playing some games, Coughlin, Yousuf having better availability

Parkinson struggles maybe linked to the batters not scoring enough

The biggest issue for me was so many good players out of form for prolongued periods of the season

Bowling signings were a bit meh (why didn't we just sign Jake Ball?) but batting was as good as we've had in 20 years, on paper at least. The bigger problem this season imo was players playing well under their capabilities because the captain didn't know what the fuck he was doing and couldn't inspire a Geordie to dodge bath night.

Also signed Codi Yusuf who was excellent in the matches he played.

Conners was signed as a back up bowler as they had no faith in the kids, and/or knew Killeen wanted away. Potts bowled 370 overs at 42, Drissell 235 overs at 52 - thats the stuff that got us relegated.

Listened to the recent Wisden Podcast where they reviewed the CC season and tbh couldn’t believe what I was hearing when they were talking about Durham. One of them who had tipped Durham to challenge for the title back in April parroted the usual shite about injuries and England players not being available for selection. Thankfully the host (Yas Rana I believe) said he had less sympathy because recruitment had been shocking and North would have known well in advance of the season starting that the likes of Carse would have been mostly unavailable.

North knew Durham would be without Carse for nigh on all of the season and said as much at last November's Members Meeting on the day the fixtures released but he foolishly gambled that Stokes and even Wood would be available for a handful of CC games each - which ,given their injury woes over the past few years, was not the cleverest thing to do.

The greatest fault was in the recruitment of the overseas bowling options in both CC and T20.Certainly there were also better options available from the domestic market e.g Taylor (Worcs) or White (Yorks). If North were to admit that there was a need for recruitment in this area pre-season and had tried and been unsuccessful I'd accept it.
