[the ashes] test 3. Manchester

as expected, a very flat feeling officially retaining the urn as a result of rain.

No on field celebrations to witness, no jubilant crowd, no deflated looking Aussies. No memorable moments to look back on.

No potential for a whitewash and a dead series for the rest of the summer. Cricket will now slip back to eight pages from the back of the popular papers and another opportunity to capture interest of youngsters passes by.

A drawn test was the worst possible outcome for the series as a whole but to do it as a result of rain is just crap. Sod off Manchester

:-?

Exactly - 16 f***ing years. I think people who feel sorry for them even weren't born or have no real interest in cricket

Too right, people were hoping for 5 days of solid rain before the Oval test in 2005. The priority is always winning the urn and after the way the Aussies lauded it over us year upon year, I'll take a damp squib to keep the urn where it belongs every time.

Reet, job doen. Hope to hell the rain stays away on Friday.

Australia had a poor start and did not recover.

I think they (the Aussies) will have a great chance in Australia. England might actually play some positive cricket in the last 2 tests.

England play their best cricket when they are more attacking.

Eh?

We absolutely murdered them in the 2nd test.

Anyone moaning about the weather and the aussies deserving to win, please leave this country ya traitors ;-)

Im moaning about the weather but I certainly dont think the Aussies deserved to win. (There were 7 wickets remaining, and one of those they had taken was part of the tail).

it effectively does. There's even talk of resting Anderson creeping into this thread already.

It doesnt. The series can still be tied (just because there is an urn involved doesnt make it different to any other series where a team is 2 up and there is 2 to play).

Anyone thinking we may rest our best bowler needs to give their head a shake.

Cook, Trott and Pietersen were out? Or have I missed something here?

Sorry, you can tell I havent seen owt of this test (was thinking of first innings when Bresnan went):oops:

I really wanted to see how Root and Bairstow negotiated todays proceedings. I had a really good feeling that we were going to win at 11.30 this morning. Placed an imaginary bet that Root and Pietersen were going to knock it off.

I dont think we'd have won but I dont the Aussies deserved to win because they didnt take 20 wickets and I dont think they would have done even if the rain stayed away.

obviously pleased to retain the Ashes but I was confident wed have done that without rain intervention, if not this test then in the next two.

A fan of cricket wanting to see cricket decided on the park is hardly being soft. It is a massive anti-climax watching our players signing autographs for bairns at the front of empty stands. Would have been nice to see them jumping about and a full house giving the deflated Aussies a wave off. Anyway, we didnt so nee point going on about it.

4-0 now the aim

no sympathy at all for the Aussies. England fully deserve to retain the urn on the back of the first two test victories

No real fan of the game of cricket would have want to see an Ashes series effectively brought to an end by rain.

Stick that wherever you like matey, I'm delighted.

Has reading the Ashes threads not taught you anything?
