top order batting has bee pretty woeful all series to be honest..its only our bowlers who have been performing to get us into this 2-0 lead

And Australia have obliged nicely by being pretty poor too. No coincidence that as soon as they have actually played well we've looked shaky

Perhaps drs is asking the wrong question. If you think of rugby it's 'can I award the try?'. If you asked 'can I give that out' the answer would be not enough evidence.

The only way for that to work in cricket is for the on field umpire to refer every vaguely doubtful decision to the third umpire.

It's not drs that causing the issue, it England being negative. We are just waiting to be all out or for the rain.

Get at them and give it a bloody go, as if we keep going on this way and weather stays clear we have lost

I don't know why we started this mindset of endless blocking. It seemed to start when we played Pakistan in the UAE, before then we seemed happier to have a go and be a bit positive. But this negativity has never worked and never will, positive batting at least offers a better chance of getting the right result, as we proved in Brisbane 2010, the last time I can remember us batting positively in the face of adversity.

Every time we've gone into our shells since then we have ended up losing, and unless these 2 can start playing some shots this afternoon and putting some pressure back onto the Aussies, this test will no doubt go the same way.

All this talk of wanting the Aussies to win this match to provide us with a tight series is exactly the sort of mentality that has left British sportsmen and women as the bridesmaid and not the bride on so many occasions. Just ask all those amateur sportsmen and women who have no viewers at all - they play to win. Entertainment is more of a by-product. You wouldn't have heard the Aussies complaining about whitewashing us in 06-07, and that's part of the reason they were such a formidable force throughout the 90s and early 2000s. They were the best side in the world and they weren't afraid or embarrassed to show it.

From TMS, absolutely spot on.

Warne's got it spot on there.....England need to look at their tactics and mindset in situations like this...far too fuckin negative

They were the best side in the world because they were amazing at cricket. Their bullishness gave them the edges in close contests but they didn't need it when Gilchrist came in at 5 down and scored more than half the other team's innings total in the space of about 17 balls. It wasn't a tactic or choice, it was the natural end of product of repeatedly pissing over everyone from every conceivable position. England showed a glimmer of it a few years back when they were very briefly no 1 in the world too.

The actual England team have been fudging over rates, trying to slow the game down yesterday so that they could retain the Ashes by draw, refusing to walk and so on, it's not like they haven't been playing to win at all. What the public thinks has fuck all to do with whether England win or not.

But to be fair to England, the first job is not to lose the ashes. So can see why they are doing it.

However, for me unless we start going at them it's 2-1 unless the rain saves us.

So ha'way rain.
