Am I missing something about the whole DRS thing?
Why don't they just use every bit of technology available for every decision going?
It was introduced to eliminate daft human errors but if that's the case it has already fucked up royally in this series and a million times before.
What exactly would be the problem with taking it out of the players hands (which it should be anyway, that isn't their job) and just letting the 3 umpires decide important bits for themselves with the aid of technology?
Because you potentially run the risk of the umpires then just going upstairs each and every time they are unsure. Or if the 3rd umpire can techincally step in any time the umpires on the field fuck up you could end up with no need for on field umpires full stop.
The problem is the review system was brought in to eliminate the absolute howlers. However, teams arent using it that way, and are actually using it with border line calls. Take Swanns wicket last test match, where the umpire gave it not out as he thought it just pitched outside. The England lads quickly got together and you could see Prior was saying "it might be just in line ya know" and Swanns expression told he thought it was a real 50/50 call. Then they reviewed it, the ball had pitched mm's inside the the line and batsman was given out. Technically the decision was eventually the right one, but the fact that the players all knew it was very borderline they should technically have not looked to challenge the onfield call as it was not 'a howler'.
