the action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program

I re-loaded Malwarebytes yesterday. Maybe the software that's meant to help me is f***ing me over. :)

I don't have a porn folder. This laptop is pristine. I use the wife's tablet for all my porn I'll have you know.

I'll keep fiddling (...on the laptop... I'm not talking about porn anymore.)

Thanks to you all for your help. Much appreciated.

Any folder. No. Pardon?
AV = Anti Virus. I see you mention malwarebytes. That could be the culprit.

Is it a single file in the folder that's locked? What type of file? What is the path to the folder?

But overall, try safe mode first.

Ta. I figured out how to get to safe mode. Which is a bit more complicated than I supposed but one you know something etc... I can do what I need to do in safe mode.

Now I just need to figure out what's f***ing with my folders. I'll explore the Malware bytes option somehow.

It's probably malwarebytes; this is straight from their forum:

Since updating my Windows 10 PC to 3.4.4 (Premium-Lifetime licence), I've noticed a couple of instances of files being locked open without reason.........

This is a known issue related to the Ransomware Protection and they are working toward a fix. Last I heard was end of the month on the fix. For now the temporary fix is to disable the Ransomware Protection prior to doing these tasks, then re enable later
.

Glad to hear it.

To figure out what's f***ing with the folders you could try that IObit unlocker that someone suggested earlier but be wary.. it'll be full of adware. Make sure you untick allll the f***ing boxes before installing that shite.

As suggested it could be Malware Bytes. If the program is scanning a folder obviously the folder will be "in use", but if it isn't doing a scan then it shouldn't be interfering. So first check if it's in scan mode, then check if there are any "file protection" boxes ticked on the settings tab. Do the same with with all antivirus programs running.

The fact that everything is ok in safe mode proves that it's a program, you just have to find out which one.
