Thank you Dan Neil

Just a shame they didn't offer him premier league wages 👀

Yes , let’s give Dan Neil a big contract because he’s a canny lad who’s Sunderland through and through but in reality will never get a start this season or let’s move him on and release funds to bring someone better in ?

It wasn’t that long ago we were being held to ransom by journeymen players at the end of their careers.

Let’s support those making the decisions that are in the best interest of the club rather than looking back through rose tinted glasses.

Anyway not many will know what he was or wasn’t offered, that includes possibly you and certainly me.

Not really sure what we’re thanking him for, he was shite
He wasn't shite but I don't get the love in everyone talking about.

He worked hard to get here then left within the first season, he should of signed the contract even if it was just an extension.

Funny thing is football... le Bris could be out the door ( hope he's not though) and a new manager/coach might of fancied him.

Tinge of sadness to this… can’t help but feel that it’s just an accumulation of circumstances that has led to Neil exiting the club.

Had we been certainties for automatic promotion heading into Xmas last year I think a new deal gets made. As it happens, our future was by no means certain and at that time DN couldn’t be sure that we’d be in a position to match his ambitions. Club weren’t in a position to give him big money and so it ended in a stalemate.

Fast forward 6 months and the whole situation is turned on its head. Players leapfrogging over Neil in the pecking order, 16th best player in the world occupying his spot and club thinking of progressing their long-term assets ahead of someone on the verge of an exit.

He’ll go with my best wishes and gratitude. I really hope he smashes it at Ipswich.

To be fair why would he sign a contract if it wasn't what he thinks he's worth?

I bet it was better than the last one he signed.
The last one will have been league one wages probably so yes. He wasn't going to sign anyway if he knew he wouldn't get a game. Good luck to the lad, hopefully he does enough on loan to earn himself a good offer in the summer

A happy and healthy future to you, Dan, wherever life takes you.
Thanks for your years at SAFC. You’ll have plenty of great stories to tell your grandkids about your time here.
