Thank you Dan Neil

It’s hugely disappointing to see one of our own leave and under such a weird cloud - he had some limitations but was generally an excellent player for us and I thought he would have had a bigger role to play this season.

Go smash it at Ipswich Dan!

It worries me how influential he was around the club and players - and whether it could have any impact!? I know players come and go but he is the proper local lad and was captain etc

Leaves us with some great memories. Thanks for everything. Now go get another promotion medal and see us again next season.

I have a lot of time for Dan, a great club servant, but Régis deciding to hook him at Wembley helped us win the game - and promotion.
Don't know if he was carrying a knock, but he was very poor in that first half. It may have influenced Le Bris moving forward.

He had cramp and was visibly suffering 2nd half, could barely move.

Having watched it back since where initially I thought we were dreadful first half, Neil was the only central midfielder getting on the ball, keeping it moving and spreading play. He didn't control things by any means, but also didn't play badly at all 1st half when United were trying to suffocate us in midfield and Enzo couldn't get on the ball.

People only seem to remember how it ended and that it changed. But it only changed as United tired, had to take Hamer off and it left space for Roberts, Watson and Le Fee further back now had the space to play in without the same level of intensity and physicality they wouldn't have faced earlier.

Because he was still a mainstay lf the squad, the fact regis wouldn't put him in is neither here nor there. Especially with xhaka having a niggles and diarra returning from a decent layoff
You don't need to replace someone who didn't get minutes

Wonderful, heartwarming from the club.

Anybody watching that must see the lad is red and white through and through.

Followed and played for the club from being a kid, won two promotions and lifted a trophy at Wembley...... all by the age of only 23! Lived the dream of all Sunderland fans.

All the very best for him at Ipswich and hope his career gets back on track.

Instead of salvaging a small transfer fee now, letting him go for free this summer (so with better personal terms) could be part of his thank you reward from the club.

When you watch it back he was no worse than the majority up until the 60th minute. Then he seemed to hit a brick wall and literary couldn't do anything. Run, pass, tackle
He certainly deteriorated but was very ordinary earlier in the game. I agree he suddenly seemed to be running through treacle. Taking him off helped pave the way for our string finish.

Just a shame they didn't offer him premier league wages 👀
Clubs usually try and take the piss out of their homegrown players I think when it comes to contracts . He must have been sick as fuck seeing us bring in all these players on more dosh and do very little.
