Thank you Dan Neil

This. Club needs to be careful it doesn't trade all the good it's done to reconnect the club with the fans for short term success on the pitch, and we make sure these lads are being replaced by players who want to be here, not by players who just want to be in the Premier League.
They've replaced him with Granit Xhaka.

I'd have loved to have seen the promoted lads mix it up, but we wouldn't be sat here reasonably comfortable on 33 points. It's the harsh reality of football.

I think we can say the person who replaced Neil 100% wanted to be here

Good servant for the club. A player who just got on with things, never negative in public.
Shame he isn't at the level we require just now, so understand he needs regular football.
Ipswich doing well now

Good signing for them

It’s pretty sad that a lad who has been at the club since he was a young child and was so significant in our rise through two divisions back to the top flight never got the chance to prove himself on the biggest stage with Sunderland. Obviously football is extremely ruthless and cut-throat and whether it was his perceived inability to perform in the Premier League or his contract situation it still feels like a less than satisfactory ending to Dan’s time at SAFC.
That just about sums it up for me. I hope that he's leaving on good terms and he's a big success at Ipswich.

Feel quite sad, more just that it's been most of his life being here. When you get to the real dream part of it - has to stand aside for the overall success for the club. You'd be absolutely guttered wouldn't you if you were him. He did very well for us to get us to the premier league. Club legend really.
