As expected really. Not surprised about Crawley. They want him for the Ashes. I really don’t think Bashir is good enough at the moment, but hope he proves me wrong. Cook and Cox are deserved call-ups.

Crawley and Bashir set to keep their places.
Cox coming in as spare batter
Pope back to 3

Just sends the wrong message to the spinners in county cricket performing when Bashir is going at 4+ an over and taking barely any wickets.

I'd be taking Crawley to Australia but I wouldnt have started him this summer

I know he’s only played five white ball games, but Cox looked a million miles away from being an international player in those matches.

Hope he proves me wrong if he does get a chance in the summer as the management clearly fancy him.

There's a County Select XI v Zimbabwe next week. Perhaps that will give indication which reserves are being considered. McKinney certainly and I'd like to see T C Ali,Warwickshire leg spinner.
To be fair to Bashir, his test record isn't bad.
49 wickets in 15 tests at 37/wkt

Didn't expect wholesale changes but Bashir can count himself lucky to be selected. He had a poor winter and I haven't seen any improvement in his all round game, it's not like he's contributing with bat or in the field either.

Popes averaged over like 40 at 3 hasn’t he?

Was saying this in another thread

Like he did pretty well overall, I’m not convinced but some of the comments are way over the top
They are picking Bashir with Australia in mind as he is in tall and gets over spin

Left arm spinners are awful jn Australia overall

I’d just like them to maybe take each series as it comes

If they want him in Oz for that reason that’s ok but he doesn’t have to play every test before it does he

Pope has yes. He still looks jittery like, I think he’s a ready made 5. Which is unfortunate

Was reading something about the Aussie pitches being different these days, hence looking at Cook. Could all be bollocks mind

There's a reason Boland has been so successful over there. I don't think they are as pacy as we are expecting, none of their bowling attack are express pace.

Yeah they are different and the balls been doing more too, basically spun has played no part, it’s interesting

In their decence theyve always said they want one skillful seam bowler, Jimmy then Woakes with Potts backup
