They did against South Africa, they have for the t20 world cup but IMO its now time to get him back in as he is the best batsman we have and also the most entertaining. Cricket is a spectator sport and Pietersen is the best batman to watch.

If you like the hit and giggle type of cricket, personally I'd much rather watch Cook at his best than Pietersen. Hopefully we'll get the chance to see him put together one of his trademark innings on the flat tracks of India.

Glad to see the ECB taking a firm stance on Pietersen though and not just relenting now that Strauss has retired.

I know its all about opinions but I dont know how anyone can actually enjoy a fully flowing Cook innings more than a fully flowing Pietersen innings. Pietersen dominates with an arrogance and a confidence that very few in world cricket could dream of. Its not hit and giggle as you say either. Its proper batting where he outthinks bowlers and treats them with disdain. I appreciate what Cook does, the concentration and application is essential, but no way is he better to watch than Pietersen. No way

I agree it's about opinions, and my opinion as a test cricket purist is that watching Cook construct an innings methodically, gradually wearing the bowler down, having an answer for everything is more exciting than watching Pietersen walloping everything that comes his way and managing not to get out. I'm afraid big hitting and fast scoring just doesn't do anything for me, which is probably why I gave up watching the pyjama game years ago.

For example, I could watch Cook's 235* from Brisbane all day long, but Pietersen's 227 from Adelaide just doesn't carry the same interest when I think back to highlights of that series.

Im a Test cricket fan also and that is a pretty inaccurate assessment of Pietersen and an average of almost 50 in Test cricket suggests he does more than whack it and manage not to get out.

He plays shots all around the park. Drives through the covers and straight down the ground, pulls off the front and back foot, sweeps and reverse sweeps, switch hits, everything. Cook has a formula that works for him (predominantly cutting and pulling) and is very good at it. But I would argue that Pietersen is a better all round test cricketer than Cook.

When England slip back to 5 in the rankings, KP will get a recall

Be surprised if we come away with anything other than 2 or 3 nil drubbing

We're suddenly taking quite a few gambles, especially with 2 Ashes series coming up very quickly.

Still, it's all evolution I suppose, I'm pleased Pietersen isn't picked, I never want him to play for us again.

I fear however we may have a barren few series until the squad evolves and beds in.

He's back

I agree about the series result, going to be a fantastic effort to get a drawn series never mind a win.

I hope India proves a good place for Root to debut. As well as Finn and Bairstow to further develop. Despite at times looking a million dollars it is a big series for Bell, who has struggled against spin. Anderson and Broad need to rediscover form quickly, they could be competing against each other for a place when we play 2 spinners.

The ECB were right to drop KP but he will be will be back for the Ashes. No doubt.

We will chase leather and struggle to win more than 1 Test.
