TEST MATCH: Afghanistan v Zimbabwe

I'm not sure why people mention the ages of Afghanistan/Pakistan cricketers, they're highly dubious at best.

Anyways Afghanistan piling on the runs. Got to be massive favourites with Rashid Khan back particularly, at this level you figure 400+ is a mammoth score.

An absolutely atrocious declaration at 545-4 leaving Zimbabwe 17 overs (50-0). No need to stop there. Same scenario as the first England v India Test, except Afghanistan scored faster and had more wickets in hand, so they could more easily blast quick runs. Should have looked to looked to bat out the day (another 19.2 overs of batting) and reached 650+.

Cricket declarations like this are far too much about unconscious vogue, rather than people having any sense of game theory, probability or logic. Same thing with the COVID tyranny that's swept much of the world where countries would copy measures off each other, despite zero evidence of efficacy.

Bang on. Ridiculous to declare at that stage, imo

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this morning, it’s brilliant watching bat v a turning ball when it isn’t exploding every delivery. Pitch still good for batting, but there is some turn there for the spinners.

Afghanistan likely to bat again rather than enforce the follow-on given the time left.

Interesting how many overs the two main bowlers have gotten through. 287 all out.

Not enforcing the follow-on is another of those in vogue things after the Aussies lost in India. So surprised it has been enforced here, particularly coupled with the early declaration.

Afghanistan cricket one of the best sporting stories in recent years I think

If everyone was fit an available, I think they could compete in T20 cricket, certainly in Asia

they just dont get to play enough of it together.

I used to lover thei keeper batsman, the big lad, hell of a talent, got done for doping or someit

Hope they win this

They have a top fast bowler iirc, can’t remember his name

Rashid Khan, is 22, so he is says, already made a shed load of money and will be playing T20 till he is in his mid to late 30s

Wonder if he is not tempted at any stage to just have a full year in county cricket, across all formats, and just bowl a shed load of overs. Be interesting to see how he did. People will say he wouldnt get the overs, but a county may prepare better pitches for him if they knew he was going to be here a full year

Afghanistan doing exactly the right thing so far. Leaving or defending the dangerous deliveries and taking the runs off any poor or run of the mill balls. I still, however, have an uneasy feeling that one wicket could start off a collapse, even at 67 for 1.
