Vince: Class player, give him another shot as an opener. Nothing to lose.
Burns: Potential captain. Tough, gritty batsmen. Deserves a second chance.
Pope: Classy young batsmen and technically sound. Give him the chance to build a proper innings.
Root
Stokes
Livingstone (c) Tin hat on. My choice as captain. Big character and talented batsmen. Perfect for number six role.
Foakes (wk): Best keeper in the country and very handy batsmen. Harsly treated so far.

Obviously with the ashes now gone, I’m sure there will be changes moving forward.

Whether that is personnel/coach/captain, or a combination of all three, remains to be seen.

Personally speaking, I would retain silverwood, on the condition that a national selector is brought in. It’s simply unfair for one man to carry that workload.

I do believe a change of captaincy is inevitable, though.

I agree Foakes should be given another shot, and I’d bring in Livingstone as Butlers replacement. Vince I’m just not sure about but given the state of the team currently he deserves another shot.

Burns and Pope shouldn’t really be anywhere near the team but there’s literally no one to replace them.

Very depressing situation really.

What’s your thoughts on livingstone as captain?

Very highly regarded at Lancashire.

Yeah he is, I just think throwing him into the team and giving him the added pressure of captaincy may be too much for him. We may have no choice though (who else could do it?) and we would just have to see if he’d sink or swim. It may turn out to be a master stroke and he gos on to thrive with the pressure

Salt,Lees, bracey, duckett,Lawrence, livingstone, pope, crawley and hameed they’ll get a good 90 between them propped up by root, foakes and stokes.

Lees
Hameed (worth persisting with for now I think but he’s not suited to Aussie/ SA/ West Indian pitches)
Malan
Root
Stokes
??? No idea who to pick here
Foakes
Woakes/ Archer when fit
Robinson
Leach/ Wood depending on conditions
Anderson

End of the road for Broad, Bairstow, Buttler and Burns.

Crawley, Pope and Lawrence need to go back to county championship and a lions tour and score runs if they’re ever going to make it at test level now, the last year has destroyed them

Livingstone and Vince need to play some red ball games before being thrown in or it’ll just end in tears with their techniques being exposed and the cycle will just repeat

We also need to blood Mahmood, Stone, Carse and Parkinson into the team when we can

Vince doesn’t open. He now bats 5 for Hampshire. His test record is dire

Pope has never batted 3 in his life
We’ve literally tried everyone. Maybe give lees a shot, although he’s very similar to hameed and burns, that’s the only issue.

Pope has long been touted as a potential number three. Give him the windies tour at least, we can always reassess.

Stopped reading at Vince.

Burns deserves a 2nd chance?

How many chances has he had man. He’s played 30 tests

You need to get out of that mindset like

You seem to just wanna pick every random opener in the country regardless of the technique

Unless we think outside the box we don’t solve any issues

Sticking with burns and hameed is not an option

Technique is one thing, but I don’t think Vince is an opener

The fact you point out his position for hamp like it has relevance to international cricket though

It’s like 2 different sports

All our openers have quirky techniques due to the nature of Cc right now.

He used to bat 3, he’s moved down the order to avoid the new ball. Hence he clearly doesn’t want to open

He wouldn’t turn it down like

I’m not specifically on about Vince anyway I’m on about your mindset if he can’t do it because he doesn’t do it for his county

Point making is that as test cricket is such a different sport to county cricket that’s not a good philosophy to have

Rahul is a good example for India, much better player than any we have available, but didn’t open domestically

Re Hameed. My impression was that WI pitches were generally slow and low and that would suit Hameed? I might be wrong like.

I think we'll have a few more years on the merry go round picking various batsman until they happen to fluke on someone decent.

Malan, Root, Stokes, Robinson, Wood and Anderson all look fine, although I do think its time they started to consider the future without Jimmy.

Foakes should now get a decent run in the team...well next summer anyway.

The rest of them can apply for bar staff jobs at Weatherspoon.

Given the series is fucked, I'd be tempted to open with Buttler and Bairstow in the next two tests and tell them to play t20 mode cos its the last time they'll be playing test cricket.

And most importantly Silverwood needs to be told to fuck off. They should leave Thorpe in Australia and tell Jeetan Patel to piss off back to NZ to save the return air fare
