Teams in Europa

It wouldn’t feel like a European tie in the same way, but ‘to prepare for the Championship’ is a mag like comment when we went there last year to prepare for the Premier and got our arses severely kicked.
I take a bit of umbrage with that to be honest, I wrote that comment as we were regularly facing SPFL teams in preseason before our Championship and League 1 campaigns. I just meant that it wouldn’t feel like a European away day, particularly as we faced them relatively recently, as you said. I‘m not saying we wouldn’t or shouldn’t lose to Hearts, it’s clearly a difficult place to travel to (competitively speaking). Apologies if it came off as condescending to Scottish football.

More pots there than a drugs den.

So how does that work? Will we get drawn at home first? Will we be in Group A?

How does the mechanics of the draw and the competition itself work?
Basically a super computer does it all but you get 2 from each pot 1 horn 1 away and you’re in a league top 8 qualify next 16 play each other like the play offs to get into last 16 then it’s cup style.

Yes. That was said. Fascinating stuff. I have learned so much I can then pass on to others.
No worries, one last time just to get it right myself haha.

4 pots of 9 teams, play 2 teams from each pot so 8 opponents. 4 matches at home and 4 away haha

That sounds much more like it. I see. So we all get lumped together but we only play the 8 teams we were drawn against. So we need to rely on the results of others to get us up in the top 8. But even if we are say 10th we can still progress - and if anything we have a decent chance if we are against a lower league team who qualified. This is providing KLD and RLB does the maths and we strengthen and keep the backbone of the team like Xaxha, Diarra, Sadiki and Brobbey.

Yes, don't have to rely on others as such. If we won the majority of our games we would be in the top 8, just have a look at this season's results and see what points people get through with. But we should have a decent chance of finishing in the playoff spots

I have no idea if that is all the teams who have a chance to qualify or if there will be more (Crystal Palace or Rayo Vallecano definitely being one of them). A lot of decent European teams in 2nd qualifying stage who need to make it through 3 rounds, and then Rangers to top it off. Might actually watch some qualifying games this year 🤣

Benfica have to play 6 games to qualify but lose at some point they then drop into the conference.

Yeah, Palace or Rayo will go into the group stage. There are sides from Israel and Cyprus to go into the second qualifying round. Beyond that, the rest drop down from the Champions' League qualifiers.

Seeing Sunderland in the same competition as Juventus, AC Milan , Benfica and Marseille man.

f***ing hell.

So we could face Fenerbache (P1), Olympiakos (P2), Lask (P3) and Sint Truiden (P4) home and away. So long as we finish in the top 8 in our group we should go through to the last 16. I understand the rest. It's sort of like the World Cup.
No. You only play each team once. You play two teams from each pot, one at home and one away

Bring on braga
Sadly they're in the conference due to Torrensse winning the cup v sporting.Familicao (5th) wad of been in the conference,I bet they're cursing sporting.Sporting benefited from villa finishing 4th,it meant they didn't have to go through the CL qualifiying stages.

I want Benfica (loser changes their stadium name), AC Milan (San Siro and decimation of their patter), Juventus (just wow), Fenerbahce (lunatics) and some tiny, mad teams in far flung places with the local airport in some bloke's back garden.
