Better to have stronger teams coming up so that they could finish above another lingering established club.
I don't think we need to worry about the bottom teams next season, we already have a strong team and with another Ghisolfi summer we should be much stronger with more depth than this season. We just can't go down with Xhaka, Mukiele, Reinildo and one of the best recruiters in Europe.
Damn, now I've jinxed it, haven't I? 😮

Im no expert or have real understanding of what any club promoted this season to the premier league will be able to spend within the rules so its tricky to make comment that is based on facts. My gut feeling though is that at best 1 of the newly promoted sides will be at best a Leeds this season with the other 2 rooted at the bottom. It would be no surprise to see all 3 come down whoever they are. I also look at teams like West Ham if they survive are a bit like we were in circling and that I feel will be the case again next season.

I think where we really benefited was still being relatively new the the Championship. It was the league 1 cost cutting and then keeping the wage bill down in the Championship that put is in a good position.

Most clubs in the 2nd tier who have been in it a while are living beyond their means. It’s a division that just doesn’t seem to be financially viable
Exactly while also having good plan and recruitment, we had a fuckton of leeway because we’d came up with a relative mid table championship wage bill and spend. Left us a lot of room, other clubs may well be able to recreate our plan and recruitment but none will have that room.

To survive they all need to make singings of the quality like Mukiele, Alderete, Sadiki, Brobbey, Reinildo, Le Fee then after all that glue them altogether with a signing like Xhaka.

Not saying it can’t be done but fuck me they’ve got their work cut out

I disagree. To challenge the top 8-10 you need signings like that.

That isnt the aim for everyone but it clearly was for us internally.

Leeds signed players like Dominic Calvert Lewin and have managed to stay above water most of the season so it can be done.

Not worried about any of them but would prefer teams who haven’t been in the league for a while rather than Southampton and Ipswich stinking out the joint again.

I thought I was the only one who is unable to comprehend McKenna’s formations and tactics. He played Clark as a no10 for so many games until the penny dropped. That squad he has is underperforming.
Massively so. He should be on 95 points already frankly. He literally has a championship 2020s dream team assembled. Has to pick between philogene and Clarke and can’t even guarantee top 2 ffs.

And let’s not forget how utterly lucky he got last time going up every single game.
I hope you're wrong. It's not good for the game for all 3 promoted teams to go straight back down.

Obviously I don't want any of them to stay up at our expense, however 😉.
I agree it isn’t good for the game, but it is good for us as a club. Honestly can’t see either of these 5 spending big enough to make an indent in the gap. Both us and Leeds invested very considerably (and Leeds had a much better squad than any of these going up) and Leeds didn’t even manage to stay up easily (assuming they do). Burnley are miles better than all 5 of those and they’re miles off still, and against probably spent more last summer than any of these 5 will this time around. And their spending wasn’t even bad, just wasn’t enough.

I think finding that CM anchor point like Xhaka or Stach to build a team around is essential to anyone, but looks like Ipswich and Coventry both want Neil to be that.

It's been a really weak championship this season. When you see Pompey beating 2 of the top 3 in the space of a week and Millwall's continued promotion campaign you just know all the top 6 wouldn't last 5 minutes in the Premier League

This basically - need to do Sunderland levels of investment and change to have a chance - and I don't see any of them doing this

Insane levels of arrogance this like. Particularly for a club with 3 premier league top 10 finishes.
😀 you’re not wrong. And i surprised myself thinking it. But I just don’t see the likes of Xhaka, Mukiiele and all letting standards drop.
Whilst SAFC only have 3 prem top tens, Xhaka alone has at least 20 top flight top half finishes to his name, including three league titles. That is more pertinent to the discussion imo.

I think SCR will limit the teams with an already high wage bill, which I can't be arsed to look up but I suspect includes Ipswich and Southampton. Whereas I would guess Coventry might be a dilutey version of SAFC and probably have some room to grow their wage bill.

I think there's no reason that Southampton or Ipswich couldn't have the season that Leeds had really. Had a pretty decent team and spent a lot of money on trying to improve the squad. I'd be wary if one/ both came up.

I think if Coventry seemingly want to pocket the cash - potentially as they've underestimated the gap between the two leagues off the back of our success.

As ever with the PL, all three promoted teams need to try and make up for at least an extra 100m investment into the squads in the league already (significantly more for those with multiple seasons up). Yes there's teams that will get worse - we might be one of them after player sales, you never know) but that's an awful lot.

West Ham you presume will be in crisis yet again next season with that ownership - maybe Forest implode properly with that ownership. And european football will weigh down one or multiple of Everton, Brentford, ourselves, Villa, Brighton etc. (But beyond that I struggle to see who is really going to actually struggle)

I think Southampton and Ipswich would make a better go of it next season than they did last time. Though I'd still back Ipswich to go down, I don't rate McKenna that highly in the Premier League.

We can't just assume we'll do as well next season, we'll need to make a few signings just to stand still as is the way with this league. I trust the board enough not to put us at risk of relegation though, even if we do get into Europe.

Leeds had a far better championship squad to build on than anything thats down there this year too
