Team of The Ashes 2023

I‘ve gone with:
1. Usman Khawaja
2. Zak Crawley
3. Marnus Labuschagne
4. Joe Root
5. Ben Stokes *
6. Mitchell Marsh
7. Alex Carey (WK)
8. Mitchell Starc
9. Mark Wood
10. Pat Cummins
11. Stuart Broad

I’d pick Smith ahead of Marnus as his century came in a winning cause. Bairstow has kept poorly and Carey has kept excellently but their batting performances have been the total contrast. I’d go with Bairstow.

Arguably Woakes ahead of Cummins but Cummins won the first test with the bat so can see why he’d edge it.

Marnus, Smith & Head haven’t batted as well as I thought they would. Head has the most runs out of them surprisingly. Carey & Bairstow haven’t had a good series either, so reluctantly picked the Aussie. I picked Cummins for the wickets he‘s took and also the fielding tactics.

Pretty good. I would go for Carey to just because Johnny’s errors were decisive. Smith for Laba as others have said.

4. Ben Stokes
5. Travis Head

8. Chris Woakes

Or starc for woakes

Possibly starc for Cummins actually, but think Cummins tended to pick up big wickets from memory

Woakes for Carey as both WKs have been poor imo. And incredibly harsh to leave out Woakes if you're including Wood.

Cummins has retained the Ashes, strong favourites to win the series, scored 150 odd runs at 25 (very good for a no.9/10), often brings himself on when batsman are set and breaks partnerships and played a key role in winning the first test. Any side without him is pure delusion

I think Brooks should be in above Head, other than that it’s hard to argue really with that team.

My thinking is f*** it, clearly wk isn’t that important so go for the best batting and bowling options and shove the gloves on someone

i'm not sure i can agree that wicket keeper isn't important having just watched that series
