You can’t deny that the increase in tattoos on both sexes has increased exponentially in the last 30 years though.

Sleeves were not heard of until about 40 years ago , so by default that has to be seen as a modern trend.

They pre-date nations, Christianity, laws, taxes etc. In no way can they be considered a modern anything.

Yes, they’ve been more popular than ever over the last three or four decades, but again that doesn’t make them simply a ‘modern trend’.

He means the fact that next to nobody had tattoos 25 years ago, never any women and certainly nee sleeves or full legs ever seen then means that what we are seeing now (ie the exact opposite of that and the proliferation of a surprisingly high number of folk unable to leave any skin untattooed ) is a modern thing.

I disagree, over the last 30 or so years it’s become more socially acceptable to have visible tattoos.

I know someone who was refused entry into a pub because he had visible tattoos and that was about 35 years ago, The Vic at Washington for reference.

It may not be classed as a modern trend in your opinion but things have changed vastly in the last few decades.

For what it’s worth I think Beckham has a lot to answer for.
 
I'm like 80% covered and I've got ones on my head and face and I'm looking at getting a Sunderland one but traditional fuck the mags instead of wise men say. My tattooist is a Geordie too but he's into rugby not football so it could be fun to get 😂
