Takeover News/Rumours

Spot on.
The exact same popped into my head when I read a review of his book last week. When life pushes back these arseholes leg it. Cameron ran away from his referendum mistake, Whelan ran away from his televised gobshiteing and lack of promotion.
I’ll nivver tire of pointing out the abuse I got for labelling him a twat when his trouser colour was mentioned on here. I’ll also nivver tire of telling the twat labellers that they didn’t understand what an old Etonian wearing those trousers meant. Well they all know now. His runaway mouth, attitude and arrogance illustrated it perfectly.

There seems to be an attempt at rewriting history these last few days by some who should know better. Shame on them.

Spot on marra.

Spot on.

Your memory seems to be going. He’s a nasty piece of work. You’re old enough, worldly wise enough and intelligent enough to know it. There’s been a few on here previously slagged you off as a Methven and Donald groupie. I nivver did.

Whats going on?

My views may be coloured by the fact that my son attended a public school (instigated by his mother and me, obviously) , and I dislike the generalisation of self-entitled arrogant privilege. So for me, it can feel personal, given that my son is a long-haired bearded Marxist political philosopher specialising in social justice and how it could be achieved. I'm well aware CM is capable of being a total arsehole. I also think that some people (far from all) go a bit over the top.

I wonder what type of owner this Dreyfus will be though, will he be like a Mike Ashley sorry Steve but there is no funds available in Jan as I'm a bit short or like Abramovich what he's only going for 76.5 million no problem Frank i'll transfer the funds to the owners bank account right now and it should be there in 3 working days. Anyone have an idea?

Zzzzzzzzzzzz

This is starting to remind me of the Reiver-inspired hysteria that accompanied the failed FPP takeover, (which failed due largely to indiscretions at board level of course and a lack of unanimity between FPP), but was not helped by everything that was going on around it.

We have had a shit last five years and we may be on the verge of being taken over by a group with a sustainable long term plan. Yet we are bickering about the fact that Methven may, or may not, have some sort of minor role.

Can we get the takeover done first and see how the new owners and director of football want to play it before we self-implode on what is a side issue and hearsay?

I've got plenty of mates who went to public school (though more that end up like your son, than Methven tbf). I'm grammar school myself, so I'm hardly f***ing entitled to be playing some prolier than thou type attitude. But those schools do give you sky high confidence which, along with the networks, are ultimately what you pay for: they aren't better educationally than grammar schools or even the best state schools. And the most expensive - he went to Eton! - most of all.

The good ones come out of school like that and manage to temper their confidence with a bit of reflection and perspective on the world, so, like I say, I definitely don't automatically judge people. But plenty do not, the self-confidence hardens into an "I could do anything" entitlement; an arrogance and lack of humility completely out of kilter with their ability and diligence. I mean just look at the utter prick running the country - no clearer example than him.

As I said earlier, I work in a different part of the public affairs sector to him, but I know enough about his firm to know they are a) small; b) not very well-respected. What the actual fuck in his CV qualifies him to be Chief Executive - CHIEF EXECUTIVE! - of a large firm like Sunderland, in a sector that he's never worked in? To add to it, he didn't come in with any sort of, "just learning the ropes and listening" humility, he came in and started throwing his f***ing weight around! Astonishing behaviour and his education is absolutely a driver, in my eyes, of the arrogance required to think behaviour like that is either acceptable or could deliver results.

Total weapon. Have more sympathy for Donald, frankly - he's at least been successful in life. His flaws also seem more human, though he's made a f***ing right mess of the club - not defending him. But I'm much keener to be shot of Methven than Donald - stunt he pulled, a jumped-up confidence trick, disgraceful. Talking down his nose to people who work for the club like that, who clock in every day and try to better the club before him and long after him - honestly, very angry about it.

Would your Son come in to a football club as a shareholder, then criticise and slag off the area, the club and the fans on several occasions? I’m guessing not

The comments about Northerner’s was shit whichever way you look at it, especially when there are a lot of very successful and clever business people up here who understand business, the club and the fans better than he ever will

Grumps, i can see your taking a bashing on here tonight so in perspective, everyone thinks they are better than they are which for some , they think they are entitled to say whatever. Methven opened his mouth and put both feet in it. You or i might think he believed those comments he made about Sunderland supporters and about people of the North in general, he may well have thought them but what on earth processed him to say them? His bridge went up in flames long ago and he may well wish to try and rebuild bridges again but he will never be allowed to. We have too many arsonist for that.

The point I was making, is that at the end of the day it's only the goodwill of the owner if he listens to any of the fans.

He has no obligation to do so.

If Stewie goes mad and decides he doesn't care about the money, there is nothing to legally stop him tearing the Club apart.
We could get our MP involved, worked for the mags

He can't be worse than the one we have now.

It sounds like your son is a decent, caring, self aware person who can recognize what his opportunity to go to public school has afforded him and wants to use that privilege to help others.

If you’re worried about him being tarred with the same brush as Methven I wouldn’t give it a second thought. They will both, rightly, being judged on their actions.

I think when you watch that video on twitter where he's basically lying about us wanting owners out when we were 7th in the Premier League and then saying both he and Donald had each had 1000's of letters asking them to stay its difficult to have anything but contempt for Methven. Its comes across as a spoof its so awful - he's basically lying to make him sound better than he is which is not good PR.

Slightly off topic but I was stood outside the Hilton Garden Inn after one night game ( we had won but the game escapes me) when Methven came strolling over from the ground, me being the jovial/affable character I am, coupled with having just got three points, spoke to him saying something like “canny game tonight Charlie” he glanced in my direction gave me a derisory look and never answered, bet you can’t guess what I thought of him after that, mind you it was only confirming what I already suspected, he was/is an arrogant stuck up Tory that thumbs his nose at us oiks, he was only ever here for one reason, endearing himself to the fans wasn’t high on his agenda.
