T20 World Cup 2024

Only on alerts today so not watching . Looking forward to the weekends two big games though and hoping the weather stays away

I had thoughts this morning of a scenario , where Australia beat England, then throw their game v Scotland, which would leave them with Namibia to play, which they will win

This would mean England would be out , no matter if we beat Oman and Namibia

Yes, I do a lot of negative thinking and need to see a doctor

There was a dodgy result involving Pakistan in one of the early fifty over world cups v a minnow if the time

Possibly Rhodesia iirc

This maybe the musings of senility mind
If you are remembering something, you are remembering it wrongly. By the time the World Cup started in 1975, Rhodesia, which in cricketing terms was just as far as the cricketing authorities were concerned one of the South African Board’s first class sides, was banned along with them. And after independence, Zimbabwe appeared as an associate nation three times, played Pakistan once, and lost (in Hobart in 1992).

My memory is no better than yours, though I’m not gloating. I had to look it up.

No probs at all. Pakistan did lose a game in England v a small nation

I just can’t remember who offhand.

Would that then not mean Australia taking a loss against Scotland into the next stage, should Scotland get the second berth (which they probably would)?

That’s how the second phase used to work, anyway.
