So long as it’s Buttler and Salt opening.

Jacks
Bairstow
Brook
Livingstone
Ali
Archer
Wood
Rashid
Topley

Reckon that is the first choice team but as the wickets are expected to take more turn. I wouldn't be surprised to see us play Rashid, Ali and Hartley.

With Livingstone/Jacks being used purely as batsman with the odd over if needed.

I'd have moved on from Ali and Bairstow in fairness, Jordan is going because he's averaged 30 with the bat at 160 since 2023 and is the best 12th man we've got to field.
Hartley in the squad for his left arm variety.

The obsession with jofra is unhealthy as well and just amplifys pressure and eyes on him. He was obviously very good but hasn't bowled competitively in years. Bowling in the nets is completely different to a world cup group/knockout stage

I know he’s hugely talented, but I don’t see Archer as the cheat code to justify picking him for a World Cup having barely played in 4 years
he slower and less reliable than Wood, do we need 2 at that speed, Pace bowlers seem to be going out of fashion in T20 anyway
People clearly haven't got the same memory of white ball archer. Especially how he plays T20 cricket.

He's all about his variation and using the pace when needed, couldn't be any different to how Wood bowls. He was arguably our best white ball bowler last year in the 8 games he played.

As he's in the squad ahead instead of the likes Carse/Atkinson/L.Wood it's literally a no brainer when they must know he's fit enough to bowl the 70 overs he might bowl in matches between now and June.

Not much margin for error when you've only got 4 overs per game too.

You also didn't watch the South Africa and Bangladesh series. He's the only bowler who took a fifer in white ball cricket for us last year.

I know its a different format but quite a few failures from the ODI World Cup in the squad. Curran, Brook, Livingstone, Wood, Buttler, Bairstow and Ali were all poor and some woeful. Ironically (some unavoidable) 4 of the better performers from the WC wont be there - Woakes, Willey, Malan and Stokes.

No doubt there is quality there though, many have picked back up on form and its maybe a format they are more comfortable with compared to ODI. Hopefully we also prepare better and dont say things like "we didnt realise it would be so hot" this time.

His last 20/20 England performance was 22/23 vs Bangladesh. 20/21 was the next series he played in for 20/20s. So has only bowled 11 overs in 20/20s for England in 3/4 years. His last overs bowled in 50 over cricket are still over a year ago. He hasn't bowled regularly competitively for years bar two short series. It's alot of pressure going into a world cup being expected to bowl at top standard regularly over a month imo. At the end of the day he's bowled 50 overs all in over the past 3 years for England.
Not saying I wouldn't take him, that he's not good enough, won't perform or anything, just think the approach to him amplifies the expectation on him

I think we will be far better this WC, simply because the playera play T20 and all those players bar 2 will have played in the IPL. I dont think by any means we will it mind.
