T20 World Cup 2024

As I haven't been paying attention to any of the build up, I've just realised that England won't be playing any warmup games in Windies/America and flying out only a couple of days before their first group game on the 4th. Seems like we haven't learned anything from the 50 over tournament last year in India and don't believe we need time to adapt to conditions.

Even aside from adapting to the conditions, you'd think it would be better to arrange warmup games overseas rather than hoping the weather holds in May in England.

Seems like the ECB were more interested in chasing the coin as usual. There are thunder storms forecast for London tomorrow, so there's every chance of another rain affected game.

Mott reckoned he'd learned his lessons from ODI WC.

Yeah I think we will go in undercooked again. Have to hit the ground running.
Agreed but we can effectively use Oman, Namibia and Scotland as warmups. Our result against Aus apparently doesn't matter if we win them 3 games.

Basically the following 8 teams are seeded and this will supposedly be the super 8 stage if all these teams finish top two. So finishing first or second in our first group is irrelevant.

Group 1: India, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka
Group 2: Pakistan , England , West Indies, South Africa

"To help with planning, should the eight seeded sides - England, Australia, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa and Sri Lanka - make it into the Super 8s, then their group position will be predetermined, not based on where they finish in the first pool stage.

So, the Super 8 groups could look like this:

Group 1: India (A1), Australia (B2), New Zealand (C1), Sri Lanka (D2)
Group 2: Pakistan (A2), England (B1), West Indies (C2), South Africa (D1)

If an unseeded team qualifies for the Super 8s, they will take on the seeding of whoever they knocked out. If there are two unseeded qualifiers from the same group, their Super 8 group will be determined by league position.

In the Super 8s, each team plays the others in their group once, with the top two reaching the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the winner of Group 1 plays the runner-up in Group 2, with whoever tops Group 2 playing the runner-up in Group 1.

Should either semi-final not be completed due to inclement weather, the higher placed side from the Super 8 phase will progress."

I agree about poor preparations, but this format means the first group stage can be treated as de facto warm up games with the super 8 stage where the tournament really starts.

Let's hope they get the de-facto warm-up games in. We could have one NR and one loss by the time we get to Namibia and Oman.

I'd probably question the BBC accuracy after they predicted it was going to be -5 for the Dharamsala test and snowing the entire time.

Yep and Buttler said this the othe day...

"Looking back to the 50-over World Cup, the performance was so poor you can point your finger back at stuff like preparation".

Yet we're entering this WC far less well prepared than the last T20 WC and at the same time Buttler was basically saying these prep games shouldnt have been going ahead because they clash with the IPL.

The great one I read the other day was a lack of local knowledge at the India WC meant we didnt realise it would be so hot bowling in India. You couldnt make it up!

Hopefully the birth doesnt clash with the IPL

I’m sure he’d be happy to miss the birth if it meant he was at the IPL.

It’s almost like he can’t be trusted not to talk absolute shite and therefore shouldn’t be taken seriously.
