T20 season 2022

I think the best thing about the hundred is all of a sudden, or at least since the hundred started.

A lot of people in the cricket media and especially on this board are now saying how great the blast and T20 in this country is!!

Instead as referring to it as ‘not proper cricket’ ‘ hit and giggle’ etc etc

It is something I have been banging on about for years and years while others have criticized it.

Now apparently it’s great and should be on the telly more!!

Is that just a coincidence that people have started to appreciate the blast and T20 in this country?

Well that’s where I agree T20 is great for the sport and would be more than happy to scrap the hundred and just have one T20 competition and people to realize and appreciate it’s brilliant entertainment and to find the right balance between that and getting the right red ball balance for the test side.

Not sure what you getting at with the IPL, but I keep going on about it, because people love it, crowds love it, it had 105 thousand in the final watch a cricket match.

That’s simply brilliant that you see fans passionate and enjoying themselves as that is what sport is about!
You've completely missed and/or ignored the point.

The Blast was on TV more and had higher crowds before the 16.4. So no, its not a coincidence that people have started to appriciate the Blast more, because its simply not true.

The opposite has happened. The counties are reporting lower ticket sales for the Blast and are absolute furious about the lack of promotion from the ECB, and there's fewer live games on TV.

As I said, the penny will drop soon but it will be too late.

Every IPL game is on TV. Every single one, not 3 or 4 games per team. If you want to talk about things that are no coincidence, how about the IPL being the most TV exposed and promoted tournament on the planet and by a massive coincidence, the most popular?

Franchsie T20 is still a dull as fuck whackathon with no real substance, like. ;)

Well it was going well until your last sentence.

It’s obviously not dull, the best players play in it

Never seen fans at a cricket match enjoy games more than in the IPL.

A good exciting cricket match is a good exciting cricket match, whether it is a school match, village match, county match, IPL match, hundred cricket match or international match.

Problem is so many people seem to have pre conceived ideas of what is good and bad and have made up their mind before even watching the actual match.

The very same 22 players could play a great match in the blast, but if the same players played the same match in the IPL or the hundred than an angle is found to criticize rather than just enjoying the game’

Winky smiley not obvious?

The same 22 players cod play the exact same game in the IPL and the Blast, but no-one would see one of them.

Do you not think is absolutely bizarre that Sky would show every single IPL game but less than a quarter of Blast games?

Yeah I do and like I say want to watch as much of The blast I can as think T20 great!

Suppose they could screen every short game format live like the IPL, if tournament was was reduced to a 8/10 tournament and either one of the hundred or blast scrapped

But I imagine if this board is anything to go by you and others would be up in arms about it if they did that!!!

And you will know it is not possible or practical to do that with 18 counties.

But yes take your point and agree the blast should be on more.

You know the point I am making though in the fact that if a brilliant game is played in the blast live on telly people will say so.

But if a brilliant game is played in the hundred or the IPL are of sudden it is not as good.

When it’s the same game!!!

There's Blast games on every night, there could be games on every day no problem. Now what % of the 16.4 is being shown, ah right of course it's 100%.

And you know why it's not as good. People don't have the same connection to the Delhi Dynamos, Lahore Layabouts, Perth Pissheads, Johannesburg Jokers or Bridgetown Bastards as they do to Durham, Lancashire, Yorkshire or Surrey. Chris Gayle could score 100s for all of those franchises within a few months of each and I couldn't care less, but I am invested in the Blast as Durham are in it.

Well that’s been my point all along just because people are invested in their own team, why does that mean they can’t appreciate a good game of cricket by top international cricketers!

Even though it’s understandable to be more interested in the team you support, why is there a need to constantly criticize something rather than appreciate the high skills and entertainment on show?

I would personally prefer one short format competition in this country with every game shown live and could not care less which one.

But then again I am not invested in a particular team, and could not care less about the political power struggle you keep coming back to.

Just interested in two things:

People and fans enjoying their cricket and growing the game.

And getting the balance right between white ball cricket and red ball cricket.

Mental scenes in Birmingham:

Notts needed 6 off the last ball, Miles bowled a no ball (height) to Patel who bunted it into the legside for a single (3 runs total). This left Moores on strike for the last ball and Notts needing 3 to win (2 to tie), so Patel, at the non-strikers end, retires himself out  to get a quicker runner on in his place.

Final ball is only a single and so Warwickshire and good karma win. By 1 run.

Edit - maybe karma didn’t win, given that Warwickshire did the same when they batted by all accounts…

That’s cynical but perfectly allowable under the laws.

You're 100% spot on here mate.

The 2019 Blast was the best for the counties in terms of attendances since it had started. And now it's on a huge slide.

It's an absolute disgrace what the ECB and broadcasters have done.
