T20 :: Durham v Derbyshire

Well below par performance tonight but I'm not really bothered. Probably blown our chances of making the quarter finals, but if your going to lose to the weaker teams in the group then it's all that can be expected. We are very competitive, assuming we have a full squad to pick from, if the team plays out of its skin. Anything less than that and we just cave in and lose. Overall I've enjoyed this T20 campaign, was quite surprised at how well we played early in the competition but it brought false hope. Maybe we can pick up some points from the last 2 games but it will be tough. We've definitely improved and thats all that matters to me.

Nice to read a considered and common sense view after some of the near hysterical reactions. Potts is 22 year old and leading a very inexperienced attack. Almost every experienced bowler will have gone for 50 or so runs on some occasion in a T20 game. His ER is currently 9.05, given that he bowla invariably in the power play and at the death, that's quite respectable.
Our weakness is with our overseas choices. Neither offer either a big hitting opening option or a quality spin bowling one.
Given our limited options, caused mainly by England call ups of academy products, we've done well. It's encouragement not censure these yyoungsters need.

For me the bowlers don't mix it up enough. No, very little, variation. Potts, Stokes just chuck the same ball down most the time. As soon as pressure they chuck a few leg side wides in for fun.

TBF Stokes was trying all sorts but was struggling with line and length. I thought it was telling he only bowled one over for England

Have to say Borthwick with the ball has surprised me this season. He's not great but a lot better than I expected. However, if a trade was possible (it isn't) I'd prefer him to recover his batting form from before he went South rathe than bowl.

Almost every experienced bowler will have gone for 50 or so runs on some occasion in a T20 game. His ER is currently 9.05, given that he bowla invariably in the power play and at the death, that's quite respectable.
Our weakness is with our overseas choices. Neither offer either a big hitting opening option or a quality spin bowling one.
Given our limited options, caused mainly by England call ups of academy products, we've done well. It's encouragement not censure these yyoungsters need.

One of other should have been left out for Salisbury IMO.

Yeah he's been average. We know he has the bottle for the first team though. Ideally you'd play Rushy but they seem to be deliberately resting him in white ball.

I watched him Vs Derbyshire 2nd xi and he didn't really stand out. It is what it is really. I've seen a big improvement overall this season. Small steps, just got to stick with them. Looking forward to the One Day Cup.

Aye, trouble is you'll have to get on YouTube to watch it. I'm visiting relatives in Sussex and plan to take in the Hove and Beckenham games. I'll keep the forum informed.

I'm assuming attendances will be back to normal by then. We've only got 2 home games although Scarborough quite appeals and mentioning South North to you is like mentioning the war to Basil Fawlty

Ha I've mellowed with regards to South North, I've actually enjoyed my two visits. Wife and nephew never been before so be interesting to see what they think. Never been to Scarvegas either

In the Northants game away Potts bowling figures off his 4 overs were 1 for 29 with an ER of 7.25. He also scored 40 n.o. with the bat. A very good performance. Last night his bowling was below par and he paid the price. Way it goes in T20.

With the batting at home I wish we would just concentrate more on nurdling the ball about for 2’s and 3’s rather than trying to regularly clear the ropes and being caught. Happens time and time again. Far more runs available by keeping the ball on the deck and mainly dealing in 4/3/2’s. The lack of spin just seems to be a permanent problem.

The 2 young lads have to start somewhere and neither covered themselves in glory, but that was only to be expected.

Exactly, nurdling 1s and 2s plus occasional boundary and you're up to your 8-10 an over. That's fine, but you also need the master blaster in the powerplay to get your total to the challenging 200+.

The one home game we did this was against Birmingham Bears and for me it was our best performance with Bancroft and Dickson keeping the scoreboard ticking along without trying to leather every ball and ending up with 186-4.
