In light of yesterday's developments in the golf and also with Saudi football, what peoples thoughts on the reported LIV cricket?

If golf is anything to go by I would say this is going to happen and possibly quickly, I saw an article in the Guardian (I think) that even mentioned there is a convenient gap in the world schedule for this to slot in.

Thoughts on the likelihood of it happening?
 

Very likely, particularly given cricket isn't exactly an afterthought in the middle east with the UAE being a regular on the affiliate circuit, and the amount of cricket played in Sharjah/Abu Dhabi in decades gone by.
 
Spoke about this last night with the other half (yes we have some exciting conversations :lol:) when we were watching sky sports news and it said Zaha is off to Saudi Arabia 15m a year contract.... Off the back of Benzema yesterday also. It's inevitable other sports will follow which for me is a massive worry.

I'm not sure what involvement (if any) Saudi Arabia have with the IPL but it's going to just get bigger and bigger with ££££ thrown all over. More sports will follow.

I believe the Saudi's have a growing influence in the IPL and the IPL owners will want to maximise their profits. You can definitely see this happening quickly

Yep… I think it is nailed on Chunk!
 
It’s very likely to happen the way things are , but as ever it can only be stopped by Goverment

private companies, individuals and clubs will always look to maximise investment and revenue streams and those with the biggest of the lot are Saudi Arabian

we all I think agree its wrong but the little people never count

it has to come at government level and with the current lot, money and plenty of it, is their lives obsession and anything else simply does not count

It sad but reality and if Labour get in, I’ll be very interested in their approach but by then it maybe way to late to do a thing
 
They are going to be involved somehow, I dont see a league in Dubai, UAE though, nobody attends and it looks terrible visually

remember its sportswashing, so half the point is what it looks like. They could pump so much into the IPL and expand it too months maybe.

What I have always seen the end game in this is the IPL becoming as a long as a premier league season. Thats how its watched in India, and with their growing middle class, the demand is there.

Another thing is, people look at Sam Curran getting 1.8 mill or whatever it was, but there was an article in times showing how ridiculously underpaid the playrs are as a percentage of revenue to other sports. Its bottom by miles.

There is a situation where to the top players could get £10 million a year or something in the next few years for a longer league

There is nothing we can do about it really.
