Broad 5th in the test rankings and shouldnt have been in the side for the start of this series. A sad indicment of test cricket
Broad, Anderson and Swann are 3 parts of the best bowling attack in test cricket. I'm happy all of them are doing superbly particularly Broad who was the one that needed to step up to the plate and did. Whoever suggested he shouldn't have been picked were clearly wrong but who cares?
Only wrong with a great deal of hindsight though. Before the series started about 75% of cricket fans and pundits thought he should be dropped, and that's not because most of them didn't rate him, it was because he wasn't doing it and England had good bowlers such as Bresnan and Finn in reserve. Broad talent was never in question, his form was and I'm glad to say he's been outstanding in the series, the cricketer we know he should be.
He was really poor against Sri Lanka and a blind man could see it was as simple as pitching it up more consistently. The Sky Pundits had a poll of which quickie should be picked alongside anderson and Tremlett and only 1 out of 10 chose Broad and that was Nasser.

and thats why the likes of Botham and Lloyd were not particularly great coaches and the likes of Atherton had a poor win ratio as skipper

boring
maybe so but most test players hit a rocky spell as they get found out.
Strauss being the prime example, 2nd quickest to 2,000 test runs, dropped within the year
Theres nothing to 'find out' about Swann. Hes an offie, he can give it plenty revs and has a slider. He can vary his pace and adapt to situations but theres very little batsmen learn about Swann over time. The '40' he has averaged over the last 3 series is actually top drawer given the conditions he has bowled in and the two opportunities he had to win a test he did. The '40' over the last 3 seasons is almost exactly the same average as harby has had in the last 5 years when half of his tst matches were in India.
first cracks are starting to appear all I have said. Its easy to get to the top of the rankings, harder to stay there. Time will tell
Its not easy to get there like
He has to continue to deliver yes. But he is 3rd in the world man
The standard of bowling atm is dross though.
just thought I would answer that for eb![]()
who cares?
number 3 in the world
team is number 1
he is also the number 1 one day bowler
you can only beat what is in front of you
