Tier 3 covid restrictions hang over North East as leaders summoned to talks
North East leaders have been warned of fresh discussions over a potential move into tier three, following a late-night summons from Government.

It is understood that leaders in the region were told by central Government that a meeting will shortly be called to discuss Tier 3 restrictions, and the potential move from Tier 2.

The email, which was sent at around 10pm on Thursday October 23 stated that Ministers were keen for this meeting to happen as soon as possible.

What’s the point in putting restrictions in place if they aren’t even given time to potentially work?

Give up with this shit.

They did the same when they announced the 'rule of six'.

Brought it in on the Monday, then put the NE into enhanced restrictions five days later - no chance to see if it would have any effect before piling on the misery.

I have lost all confidence that anyone in the Government, including their so-called advisors, has any idea of how to deal with this. It just seems to be lockdown, lockdown more, lockdown harder, without any idea or plan as to how the restrictions can later be reversed or lifted.

And all the time, despite everything, the number of cases continue to rise. Almost like the lockdowns are pointless and there's nothing we can do to stop it infecting people.

The Saltgrass pub have reopened after Sunderland city council closed them re covid regulations.

The pub has undertaken a new risk assessment and their staff have received further training.

How far is any lag likely to back though? I don't think it would change that average much.

In terms of actually being infected, I would have thought significantly. A high proportion of people will be tested when they develop symptoms and on average symptoms develop 5 days after infection. Add to that the average time from test to result. So, reported infections are limited in terms of tracking the current position. Hospital admissions is a better indicator of how the virus is spreading.
