Sunderland vs boro 22 Jan 23

Shit loads of boro appearing on here lately desperate to feel relevant.

Our forum does attract shit loads from other clubs.

I like most Yorkshire teams excluding Leeds (can’t stand their fanbase having lived in West Yorkshire years ago) much rather see boro or one of the other northern clubs in the top flight as opposed to say a Brighton.

The only exception being the mags and obviously not seeing boro promoted at our expense.

To be fair the Billingham lads near me do consider this a rivalry that’s important more than those of us closer to the city ….geography of where you are from does play a part I suppose.
For me it’s 3 points _more important because of our respective league positions
The only game that gets my stomach feeling sick is “the derby “…nothing like it …
I wasn’t saying it to be a nob, at the start of the season avoiding relegation would have been a great achievement. Mowbray teams always drop off.
What’s the word on Tees today Re Stewart
He was close to signing yesterday you said ?

Why did you let your club die on its arse and do nothing?

The former Chairman Charlie Amer (probably the most reviled person ever in the eyes of Teessiders) systematically bled the club dry between 1981 and 1986 resulting in relegations, massive debt, a crumbling stadium et al. It is all well documented as is the approach of the FA who made an example out of Boro when previously other clubs in the same situation were given a route out. Sadly for football many other clubs have ended up down the same route in the subsequent years which is a stain on our great national game, but that's for another discussion.

Anyway, your question was about why I let the club die and do nothing. I'm actually proud to say I followed Boro home and away (season ticket since 1973/74 and still have one) through those thin and thinner days during the aforementioned period.

It made what followed ... seeing my team play in European matches over 20 times including a UEFA Final, seeing some world class players wear the Erimus badge, winning a major trophy, playing in FA and League Cup finals, over a decade in the top-flight etc. worth the heartache, pain, cost and sacrifices during the period when I genuinely thought I would end up watching Boro play in the Gola League (as was).

So you done nowt and bunked up with Pools.

Cheers for clearing that up

In my experience on this forum and from Sunderland fans I know - some genuinely don't feel it is a Derby, some do but say it isn't as they think it winds up Boro fans, and some think it is a 'second derby'.

It felt a much bigger game in the 80s and has slowly ebbed away for various reasons.

Either way I think we can all agree that it is a big game. Will you sell out?

You’re coming across desperate as fuck to get your point across

It won’t sell out imo

I hope everyone gets through the day with no trouble and a great game of football.
This I live in Teesside and they are decent people who are passionate about their team. Losing to them this season in one of the only games we didn't show up was awful but I honestly believe we have a better team than them lot and we will prove it in a few weeks

so what exactly would you expect one person to do if not very wealthy.
I'd happily go cap in hand to you lot if it meant we did not fold.
would you rather Sunderland die on a point of principle.

Just pointing out you done nowt.
Carry on trying to be relevant now your internet is back up and running…

Not arsed about Boro - their celebrations as if they won the FA Cup last time out were f***ing cringe.

But… it’s shaping up nicely to be a big game in its own terms, two form sides in the division. Should make for a good game.

The idea some of your fans have that our record against you is better because it means more to us is daft. It's because we have simply had a stronger team than you in recent years.

I think it could have been a different game at the Riverside, if the striker you all rate hadn't have gotten injured during the warm-up. We didn't play well that night to be honest and we scraped the victory in the end.

I've never been to a Boro/Sunderland game at the SOL but it's always an intense atmosphere whenever we play eachother at the Riverside, and your fans more than contribute towards that.

"Although Boro may have had the better of recent exchanges perhaps" ... not much "may" or "perhaps" about it ... Boro's record against Sunderland in the last 7 matches is WWWWWDW.

The only time Sunderland didn't lose in those seven meetings was thanks to a 97th minute equaliser at the SOL.

Not that winning a string of matches against local rivals is anything to shout home about eh! ;)

What a small Town in Yorkshire, you lot are......looking forward to the game which isn't a Derby......Ha'way the Lads!!!

I must really be getting under your skin. Don't worry about it mate.
So, in the past Sunderland must have treated Boro as a derby, but Boro didn't ?

Nooo when Sunderland win it's because they had a good team.

But when Boro win it's because we care more.

😂😂😂

There is a pattern I have noticed over an extended time reading posts from Sunderland fans on this board who have lived and / or worked on Teesside and your comments align with them.

Decent people, good craic, self-depreciating humour and are passionate about their club.

The derogatory comments generally come from those who have never worked or lived in the area.
