*~*~* Sunderland v West Brom match thread *~*~*

Gutted. Absolutely gutted. We did everything right apart from score. But that was because of their frankly unfair, unsporting, unprofessional spoiling tactics.

They had no intention of winning the game. They just came to do everything they could do to stop us from doing it. It wasn’t about ensuring they won. It was purely about ensuring we didn’t. They crowded their defence. They made 10 outfield plays look like 110. I remarked to the person sitting next to me that when they defended they left no space. When we did we had gaps. Yet where were their strikers? They had opportunity after opportunity to score through us gifting them time and space yet where was Maja, a player who happens to be in the top 3 of the leagues highest scorers? He just ran around for like 70 mins. They had one of the most prolific strikers in the league yet made zero, nada, butkis, zilch effort to score. That for me isn’t in keeping with the spirit of the game. No way will they go up with that attitude.
we won’t get promoted either if we can’t break down teams like that at home - tough one last night and we didn’t create a lot at all

I'm still more pissed off with throwing away 3 points against Coventry and Millwall.

3 points from either of those games and last night's draw would have been a decent result but instead the frustration is building.

For the most part I thought we were decent and should have scored from one of our chances, that said Jobe looked a bit ponderous at times and should have moved the ball a lot quicker (he looks a beter footballer when he does this) and Roberts looked a one trick pony last night always cutting in on the inside (and he was well watched doing this), rather than trying to go down the outside.
The pluses are we were playing one of the leagues top teams and they barely had a kick going forward. The centre half paring of Mepham and Ballard looks to be our best (sorry Luke, I rate you, but they look better at the back). WE looked a better balance outfit when Alese came on and Hume went to right back.
WE did not get beaten though and I think we will give Sheffield a real game.
