*~*~* Sunderland v West Brom match thread *~*~*

Gutted. Absolutely gutted. We did everything right apart from score. But that was because of their frankly unfair, unsporting, unprofessional spoiling tactics.

They had no intention of winning the game. They just came to do everything they could do to stop us from doing it. It wasn’t about ensuring they won. It was purely about ensuring we didn’t. They crowded their defence. They made 10 outfield plays look like 110. I remarked to the person sitting next to me that when they defended they left no space. When we did we had gaps. Yet where were their strikers? They had opportunity after opportunity to score through us gifting them time and space yet where was Maja, a player who happens to be in the top 3 of the leagues highest scorers? He just ran around for like 70 mins. They had one of the most prolific strikers in the league yet made zero, nada, butkis, zilch effort to score. That for me isn’t in keeping with the spirit of the game. No way will they go up with that attitude.

From their point of view they were away to a team who haven't been beaten at home this season and were sitting second in the league.

So I'm sure they will see it as a good defensive performance and a good point.

None of that is unfair, unsporting, unprofessional or spoiling

Was there any need for the childish laughter emoji? You could have just told me all that and not needed stupid emojis.

Point taken. I am sure at The Hawthorns if the situation is reversed we would be able same. They won’t be so happy about defensive displays when they are on the receiving end. But at least try is my point. When did they try to score?

Training Agenda
1.Shooting
2.Set Plays
3.Shooting
4.Keeping a shot DOWN
5 Set plays
6.Shooting
Day off
And change the coach who takes dead ball drills in training.

And tell Roberts he's not allowed to take any...

I was laughing because you were saying West Brom were unsporting and not keeping within the spirit of the game etc. I found those comments amusing that's all nothing childish about it.

We've seen Sunderland do the same job over the years on teams above us.

I'm more frustrated with Sunderland than West Broms tactics.

Maja had a clear shot 6 yards out but he slipped. And there was the one Ballard cleared “off the line”

They were probably the best two single chances of the game

But you don't know. And because you think it makes a difference, doesn't make you right marra.

And if he's good enough to come off the bench, then he is good enough to start a game.

Not necessarily like. It’s a different game for a winger when running at tired legs, possibly full backs on a yellow.

Quick google search says there is a couple of KG difference between the pair also (how accurate it is I don’t know). They are visibly different in terms of physicality and strength. And if strength and conditioning didn’t matter, clubs wouldn’t bother.

Oh? And why is that Mr. Next-Match-of-the-Day-pundit?

Good defensive performances are all well and good providing you can pair it up with some attempt and some willingness to score. They had no desire to score in the slightest. Patterson could have had a day off. He was under no threat whatsoever throughout the 93’ minutes of the game. In Maja they have a player who has netted I think more than 10 tines this season iirc and yet not once did they use him. You must play the game the way you feel fit. But at least try to do other things. Not just one thing the 90 mins.

I’ve just said they had the best two single chances of the game.

Teams can play football however they like. It’s not unsporting

I’d be a terrible match of the day presenter and have no interest in the role.

I wonder whether they won’t swap like for like but will reformat the programme a bit

Lots of half chances, lots of corners but we never looked like scoring. We don’t create many clear cut chances, it’s seems most of our goals come from worldies.
Same thing happened with mowbray and teams have changed to giving us too much respect and we dont have the physicality... The corner count is an indicator and i think most sides would have scored once or probably twice..... Weve improved on mowbray and our dip is still avoiding defeats, but realistically the playoffs for me look the direction of travel. Still dont rate the model and still think we will eventually sabotage even a playoff spot, but in defence we look better and i think its less likely now we will fall away to midtable.

Didn’t say much last night because I wanted to avoid an overreaction

Thought we did everything right until the ball got out wide. It’s a hard game to create anything in the middle of the pitch due to WBA setup, so we were forced wide but our wingers were wasteful. I don’t see any scenario where my winger should complete 55/58 passes in a game. He made more passes than Rigg, Bellingham and Neil.

I love PR but we really need an affective RW.

Chance creation is a problem. It’s evident. Not to be like everyone else but I’m hoping this isn’t down to the appointment of Pedro Ribeiro. Since he’s came in we’ve made significantly less chances and have been more cautious. Which yes, the defence is solid. I don’t mind it. But we’ve got to have a balance.

anyway that’s my only worry coming out of this run. 3 0-0s a 2-2 with 2 worldies and a 1-1 with a worldie. We need to get service to Isidor

Once we fix the issue creating changes we’ve got everything else there. So once it clicks I think we’ll win a few on the bounce
