Manager clearly doesn't trust the squad at his disposal.

Shouldn't have them on the bench then. It's his job to adapt to circumstances and if players are blowing out of their arses then you make a change. He might not have Kevin Phillips on the bench but that doesn't mean you don't try to change it.
