Sunderland v Newcastle Rivalry Origins.

Apparently it goes back hundreds of years to the scum being given coal trading rights by the king.

This resulted in Sunderland fighting for Cromwell during the Civil War against the Crown.

A win in the Battle of Boldon Hill led to Newcastle being annexed by a Sunderland/Scottish force.

So it appears that we have always beaten them. 🤣🤣🤣
People in Sunderland starved, iirc. It was a disgusting act that destroyed the town.

Watch 'the two tribes' documentary on YouTube. Think that goes into detail on the subject. Or there's another 'football rivalries' one about the two cities (or previously towns).

Their local MP complained about the oppression of the workers on zero hour groats and the tyrannical king to the point the people of Newcastle shouted at castle walls. However when he promised to spend loads of money to buy the best jousters and mercenary soldiers in the land all was forgiven and the locals donned armour and fools costumes and danced outside the local cathedral on a hill

The war goes back far further than that. The civil war truly was a decisive moment but there certainly is evidence that we took opposing sides during the Viking invasions. The Mag was happy to be accommodating to the invaders whilst Mackemdom stood alongside King Alfred.

Our two peoples are so fundamentally opposed in values for society that it would appear any truce is impossible. The Mag is warlike to his very soul. He is a creature of envy and greed.
The Mackem values community, he values wit and intelligence and he prides himself in the dignity of his being.
