*~*~* Sunderland v Bristol City match thread *~*~*

He's not a bombscare at all. It's laughable the negativity he gets now his likely him v's O'nien and you have people slating him on here for absolutely anything.

Mepham gives the ball away in a dangerous area, gets chopped tonight far too easily, gets outmuscled often enough and there's nowt said.
He hasn’t kicked the ball into his own face, given away a daft pen and shanked a clearance into a striker all of which led directly to goals.

It's been hinted at and Mowbray has even come out and said it with regards influence in terms of picking certain young players.

From memory Harlee Dean mentioned something about interference from first the chairman at Birmingham but also mentioned stuff about Jude coming through and Dodds without really going into detail.

The likes of Jobe and Rigg are clearly talented. Dan Neil and Dennis Cirkin too before them who also suffered.

They're all likely to progress over a period of time, when given games because they're good and very talented. whereas maybe players like Ba or Pembele, Rusyn aren't going to progress that much or at that rate as they have deficiencies and aren't really suited to the league or level.

Therefore I don't really see why, other than as part of some agreement or to maximise value over a short period, we have to absolutely hammer our better young players into the ground to the point they look fatigued and performances absolutely drop off.
Callum Doyle too, who comes under Neil's tenure.

Agreed. I understand why we're doing it, and agree with it in principle, but the team must come first, always.

Even to maximise value, I see it as counter productive to some extent.

The exposure and experience they are gaining will benefit them over the longer term, as we've seen with Neil and Jobe to varying degrees, but playing in and being part of an underperforming team will suppress their value, as I would argue was the case with Jack Clarke.

Really poor second half, that.

Over the mood for Roberts to have finally worked out where the goal is, though.

Our finishing has been well below par again, lately.

Not the best result, all things considered.

Showed glimpses first half but tbh I thought we looked poor once Watson went off. They pressed and showed more intent second half and I thought we struggled with it, inevitably they scored but it was poor defending. A couple of awkward deflections but plenty of opportunity to get the ball away. We looked to be drifting away to nothing but fair one to Aouchiche and Roberts, good play from Adil to draw the men and cut it back and to Roberts for getting plenty of lift on his finish. Put the game away in the bin with a point in the bag, poor but 0-1 after 92 mins you always take a point.

Can't even analyse the finishing when we didn't create any chances

Well summarised

Can't agree with you there mind. He's been a liability for a while now and hasn't the looked the same since his last injury.

Football is a very simple game...

You score at one end and defend at the other...

One of those actions we are not very good at atm

Out on the wings and midfield..we look pretty 😍
