Sunderland railway station.

I posted it earlier on in the thread , feels they more then happy for them to sit empty over a year on .

Just makes no sense

It hasn't changed , network rail have absolutely no interest in doing anything

Almost like the empty units have just been forgot about

Shame the echo don't care as really this should be a story ran

It's a crap location that's why. There's plenty units outside the station with better footfall and don't have the issues of being stuck in a kiosk.

It has all the same problems with the portico in Newcastle Station, anyone sane wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Let's be honest 99% of people are going straight down the stairs in it's current form.

Network rail didn't want to particularly do anything with Sunderland station at all, bet most of it came from government grants.

I honestly believe network rail have forgotten about the empty units
The money all came from Goverment Grants.

I wonder if there has been a massive over run in costs, because part of the plans included a multi-story car park on holmeside to replace the civic centre car park and that was changed to a ground level car park.

Thank you for getting in touch,

Sunderland Station is managed by Northern, you can find their website here: or call them on 08002006060.

I got in touch with network rail and they reckon Northern manage the station?

here is the issue, Northern Manage the station, Network Rail own the station, and Sunderland Council pushed for the grant and rebuild of the station

My guess is that the cost of renting a unit in the station probably puts a lot of people off. The way these things go they are likely to be unrealistically high.

Really disappointed with how things have turned out so far. It needs plants, artwork, filled units, and better display boards. I was hopeful that things would improve over time, but unfortunately, they haven’t.
Yep. So much potential lost. Now unfortunately it looks like it'll go the way the doomsayers said. A big glass greenhouse covered in seagull shit.

You'd think they'd employ a window cleaner like. Walked past a couple of weeks ago and some scummy wanker had launched a drink at one of the doors. Went past again last week and it was still the same.

It’s not the cost of renting the unit. It’s the cost of the business rates in that area of town that’s the real deterrent.

I know this first hand, because I wanted to set a business up around there a few years back.

Go on lads and lasses put this bloke to work. You've all expressed concerns and complaints. Tell the MP, get him to do some work
