So much great happening in Sunderland but the train station is a big wasted opportunity. It already looks shabby and the inside is pretty depressing. A real shame as everything else seems so well done.

Like most when it opened we thought very spartan, oh they're still finishing it off but it's just the same.
Something on the walls, would have expected a big information display like a railway station, rows of seats, plants?, anything to fill it as it's clear the concession stalls are coming.
Never noticed that. Had a quick sit in yesterday to shelter while eating before the match.Could even put the ticket machines up there instead of on the platform.
Old one was a design of its timeIt's awful just an empty void.. if it's finished then it's a disgrace .. may as well have kept the old one it was less of an eyesore.
Probably using the cheapest materials and it's grey.Old one was a design of its time
New one awful
At the time it was built all the happy clappers were giddy about it
I could see it was going to be shit
Crap shape
Too much frame work
Dont mind the new one at all but definitely needs to be improved inside. Hopefully the other end gets done soonOld one was a design of its time

It's perfectly fine if the units were filled and it wouldn't look empty.Old one was a design of its time

Just still don't know what's going on with the units
That brochure is truly awful, it's almost like they don't want anybody to take a lease. Here is the brochure for renting a unit

Basicly you have to agree to a 3-6 year lease, fund all the building cost for the Kiosk, which also paying legal fees of £1,500+Vat
And on top of that they want a Minimum Guaranteed Rent or Turnover Percentage depending on which one is higher.
And that is not include Service Charge, Utilities and Business Rates
I posted it earlier on in the thread , feels they more then happy for them to sit empty over a year on .Here is the brochure for renting a unit

It hasn't changed , network rail have absolutely no interest in doing anythingAre there even timetables on the walls? Connecting bus route maps? A map of the area outside the station? Owt? It looked like a crap conservatory the only time I stuck my head in.
Ideal location blank space for the new fillum studios then. The Spy Who Came In From The Cauld.it looks like something from East Germany in the 1960s
or Harry Palmer coming out of Billy Hills and walking into stationIdeal location blank space for the new fillum studios then. The Spy Who Came In From The Cauld.
Completely agree, but we have always been the badly done too party when it comes to norther rail / network rail. That brochure is truly awful, it's almost like they don't want anybody to take a lease.
Milligans saw the rent and realised it was better to say where there had relocatedCompletely agree, but we have always been the badly done too party when it comes to norther rail / network rail.
They could have done deals with to have retail kiosks open etc, when the building was opened, but they dont appear to have done that, they have also left it half done as per the artist plans.
I was under the belief that Milligans was going to take the largest retail unit, when the works was complete, but that looks to have changed and they are happy to stay outside of the station.
