Sunderland railway station.

To make it a bit more appealing and break up the vastness they should put up displays with pictures of Sunderland's railway history. The town was home to some of the first railways (albeit for coal rather than passengers). I see loads of class old pictures on Facey and that.
Would look great but im afraid whoever are in charge of the new station havnt got a scooby ...i mean there are only about 20 seats in the whole of the concourse...those are usually taken up by the pissheads by mid morning ...

A little bit of imagination like this wouldn’t take much effort or cost much. You should suggest it to the powers that be mate. I did a similar project in my area.

Worries over the London service too? It gets worse!

The station is a right sight! Filthy and an empty warehouse.

The Labour government have been quite vague about the future of the Open Access operators once the main franchise are nationalised under GB Railways. Trouble is that the like of Grand Central and Hull Trains have been popular and service Labour strongholds so removing their licences could be problematic.

I don't think you just pay rent and rates, you have to give them a percentage of your profits too.

You may not have heard of them but there is one business Select Service Partners (SSP) which is behind a huge amount of railway station outlets so regardless of whether it is a Greggs, Starbucks or Upper Crust it is them operating the franchises which gives them huge negotiating power with Network Rail and limits competition. It's very hard for a local business to setup in a station
