Sunderland railway station.

I didn't mention Corbyn at all. I mentioned Socialism because the Labour manifesto was Socialist. Why have you constructed a strawman argument around things I didn't say ?

Which part? Socialism actually predates the Labour Party. The Welfare state? The NHS?

No straw man argument, just need context and details when corbyn was the leader

Where did I mention Corbyn or any of the things you said about him ? Be honest and answer my question.

Notwithstanding him being in charge of the party at the time but you mentioned socialism in labour I want to know what specific labour policies at that time are socialist?

The whole thing is/was an eyesore.
100% but the amount of money spent at platform level was disgraceful. Four platforms to two and a light wall that looks like a bloke with his dog walking behind. At platform level, passengers squeezed out in favour of offices or whatever they are. Considering it was open with hanging baskets and it was clean to what it is now. Lets stop any light or ventilation and let diesel trains run through. Underground stations can be amazing but Sunderland was good money after bad. Saying that Haymarket metro station cost 20 plus million way back and what is being spent on Sunderland now, won't be that.

Does the new station have a ticket office? Seems the government are intent on closing as many of these as they can so a proposed ticket office may need to be quickly repurposed.

LNER proposing Durham ticket office to be closed.

I don’t know but I doubt there will be a specific office - much more likely a bank of machines.

It shouldn’t be long until it opens - I think ‘Autumn 2023’ was originally mooted and the structure has been up for a while now.

I'm certain that the new build was going to include a ticket office but that must be in some doubt now.

Btw, a lad I know who worked on the site told me a while ago that Grand Central was definitely going to have an office in the new station.

There's currently a ticket office where Peters bakery used to be, but there's a sign up saying its going to close (can't remember when)

I'm not sure a traditional ticket office would be needed these days, but I would like to see the station staffed as there is always a need for people to get assistance and information. Given the Metro is there will the site will be run partly by Network Rail and partly by Nexus?

Bar the really big stations, they're ran by a Train Operating Company (TOC) and I think it's Northern Railway in Sunderland's case. They will be staffed still as they're needed but in a more customer service / experience role. The problem with the proposals are customers will lose that experienced person that knows all the ins and outs of ticketing and it's not being maintained unless you go to one of the stations where ticket offices are remaining open.

Ticket machines will still be there but you can't buy all types of ticket from these.

Are they opening up all four lines again?
No, I don’t think so.

Not until the North End is developed (the old Littlewoods building) which will be years off.

It’s a damn shame because the lack of platform capacity will limited economic development of the city centre. We should have direct connections to other major Northern cities.

Nexus disagree though and prefer to channel Sunderland traffic through NCL.
