what was she like?

seen her 3 or 4 times now and she's always been excellent, although not exactly a friday night party vibe.

i couldn't find anyone to go with last friday
She was very good , great to see her do her first proper headline tour .

It was quite busy too which I was very pleased for her

New EP is worth a listen

Live music will feature along the route tonight to the stadium as part of Sunderland Music City. Performances include Will Swindle at Keel Crossing (6.30pm-7.15pm), James Hadley at Sheepfolds (6pm-8pm), and Small Town Brass (6.45pm-7.30pm).

Destination Rolling Stones at the fire station was a bit Meh for me last night - enjoyed Wicked Dogz more for free at the Peacock beforehand
Enjoyed it, but had no knowledge of them beforehand. They said very early on they’re musicians celebrating the songs of the Stones rather than impersonating them. Being honest, I would have quite liked a fella thinking he was Jagger mincing about giving it six nowt. Good songs, well played, but it lacked a bit oomph.

There’s bizarrely not a lot of Stones tributes knocking about, which is strange giving their back catalogue. Best tribute I’ve ever seen of them was at Split festival about 15 years ago.

Went to see the Brit Pack before. Very enjoyable. Choosing to play Snow Patrol with no Verve or OCS is a surprise like.

Totally agree a real lack of energy considering the band had around 12 members.

We saw Brit Pack who were good as usual and then Destination Stones. The woman dancing by the front of the stage was unbelievable, never stopped all concert. We all thought it was a good concert, good singer and musicians, and went home happy after Sympathy for the Devil.

I've just seen that the Roulette Festival for 2026 (which was to be on Saturday May 2nd on 3 stages at The Independent) has been cancelled due to low ticket sales. It was to have featured local NE bands Labyrinthine Oceans, House Proud, Red Remedy and Perimaveras. That's not a bad line up for people who know local music.

That's a shame hopefully thus will do better?

Well done Lewis Atkinson

I’ve been working to protect our grassroots music venues in Parliament over the last week.

The Government is passing new legislation reforming the planning system and I’ve been working with the Music Venue Trust to push for maximum protection for venues like Independent, the The Bunker CIC, Pop Recs Ltd when there are proposals to develop new housing nearby.

I want new houses built - but the ‘agent of change’ principle has to be sacrosanct: this means that if there’s new housing near an existing venue, then the responsibility to manage any noise issues has to sit solely with the new development rather than the existing venue incurring cost or future complaints that might threaten its viability.

We had a situation recently on Holmeside where a proposal to develop flats near INDEPENDENT - SUNDERLAND was turned down, because the developer didn’t clearly specify how to prevent any noise complaint issues. That’s right - but it shouldn’t have taken time, money and worry from our music community to get to that point.

I want to Government to strengthen the rules about this - to protect not just our Sunderland Music City, but grassroots venues across the country that are the foundation of music in this country and so much of our cultural identity.

Following my interventions, Ministers have accepted the status-quo isn’t good enough and offered further action - I’ll be meeting them to follow-up and ensure that real progress is delivered.
