How was Tom Robinson?

In great form. When he was introducing and raving about Johannes I feared his voice was shot, but really it was just that engaging huskiness that has been there for decades and which he uses to great effect. Focussed very much on the early end of his career, while acknowledging the 'power of the protest song' had led to pretty much fuck all improvement in society, other than in acceptance of differing sexualities. Did 2 sets, some canny stories and plenty of singalongs. 'War Baby' messed me up, as it always seems to, but it was dark.

So, yes, another great night at one of Sunderland's great venues.

While I'm here, William The Conqueror are playing Poprecs on Friday 21st October. I'm on holiday so a bit gutted to be missing this. They are really, really good.
