The Ropery got bombed in WW2, my Nanna was under rubble and luckily survived.

Ta for that, I'm sure our grand-dad said that it was a dummy train station, I'll ask my dad at the weekend but he was very young at the time.

Brilliant that, thanks a lot. I've been in the pillbox at the bottom of Herrington hill but never the other one in the field near Stony Gate (seen it plenty of times from A19).

My grand-dad reckoned they had a cunning plan to roll oil barrels down Herrington Hill from the area of the pillbox onto the road if the Germans ever invaded. A sure fire way to stop Panzers.

I've posted stuff where I've actually reread the post and then hit the button and as soon as I do certain words are highlighted and change! I'm forever editing, but when you're in a rush it can all go pear shaped very very quickly .........

That's the same problem that I'm getting, desktop and laptop seem ok (I think) but ipad is doing my nut in. I'm typing slowly and deliberately and it's making no difference when I read it back. I correct it to satisfaction then if I go back it's a mess again. Edit I carefully put the "my" before satisfaction and it's missing, I read it and it seemed to be there.

I've given up on the iPad for posting, but the lap top's the same. At least I've got a better chance of spotting things on the lap top .....

I'm on my desktop at the moment, no corrections so far, I'll check out my laptop later. I'm losing faith with the ipad, don't know if it's predictive text or what, I have it turned off but who knows. That should be ok first time.

If you like military history then that is a must read.

Spent a crakin day in the sun wandering around that area a couple of years back. Then bought one of the top ten worst hangowers Ive ever had in my life that night.

Didn't go to colditz as we were on a stag piss up, but did take in the culture side as well.
Piss up started in North Shields, then ferry to Amsterdam had a day there, then had days in dortmond, and Dresden traveling by train, then another train to Prague for 4 days. The train Is a great way to see a country, the train mainly follows the Elbe river. Got a Plane back from Prague.
When I travel anywhere in Europe i will now use the trains where possible, as you see the country better, not just from 30,000 feet or the side of a motorway.
And it's canny cheap, 12 euros from Dresden to Prague and it takes about 3-4 hours.

In Dresden did you go in the bar with the pool table that you stand on and use a golf putter. ?
