Sunderland Echo - are they just harvesting email addresses?

I've found that after registering a new account it works for a few days before ceasing to and then being encouraged to register a new account, with a different email address - its now happened on 5 occasions.

To me, something smells more than off!

Probably Putin again

It says to register because your session has ended and you get the same message whether you've previously registered or not. The site just sees an unauthenticated user.

There's a link at the bottom of the box that comes up that goes to login rather than having to re-register.

I don't know why they needed people to register. I set up a new email account just for that so I could see what they do with the email addresses they gather, but I've not had a single email to that account so it's not like they're selling any details on to advertisers or sending out spam. Not yet, anyway.
